Alphanumeric and its Significance

Alphanumeric which is also known as alphameric, indicates to all the characters which includes letters and numerals in a particular set of language. For example: In English language, the alpha numeric characters are comprised of the combination of set of 26 alphabetic characters that is from A to Z and the numerals starting from 0 to 9. The alphanumeric characters comprises of lower and upper case letters like symbols and punctuation marks such as @, &, *, É. This alpha numeric are used for computer purpose such as file naming and, these are strictly limited to 26 alphabetic characters, however there are other usage like in programming and setting passwords. It is much harder to hack or crack the alphanumeric passwords than alphabetic passwords. Even the licensing plate generally contains both numbers and letters. For computing purpose the standard alphanumeric codes such as ASCII which not only continue numerals but also math symbols and punctuation marks. While digging the history, alphanumeric were originally launched in 1912 by a brand (A#) who focused on modern street wear which is probably fusion of music, snowboarding, surfing and skateboarding. The brand took a non-traditional approach towards marketing and design. The off-screen concept of the brand “Alphanumeric” is to combine numbers (numeric) and alphabets (alpha) in order to give a worldwide message. When we get a string of mixed numerals and alphabets is represented in front of human for interpretation, vagueness and ambiguity arises. It is due to the similarity of the letters like O and I which resembles with the numbers 1 and 0. Therefore, depending upon the application, the various subsets of alphanumeric were adopted in order to avoid misinterpretation by humans. There are many places where I and O are omitted such as in passenger aircraft in order to avoid confusion with 1 and 0.

Alphanumeric Characters 

There is a wide use of alphanumeric characters, and we almost see everywhere. In computers the modern keywords generally include accent keys or additional punctuation as well as they contain the alphanumeric characters. It is known that computers use binary language that is in the form of numbers in order to communicate, the programmers need to code their instructions using numbers and not through alphabetic characters. These binary digits use only 1s and 0s to represent the alphanumeric character which human see them as alphabet characters. Another way the programmers use the alphanumeric characters is to use ASII which stands for American Standard Code for Information Interchange for example the programmer represents the word red by using the numbers 82 69 68.  The alphanumeric characters promote security initiatives; even with high securities the hackers are able to crack the passwords, an alphanumeric character makes it more complex to crack password. These are used in creating captchas and these captchas are comprised of distorted alphanumeric characters with uppercase and lowercase ones.   The alphanumeric characters are used to represent the brand names such as Canon A75, 7 Up, Audi A4 and many more.
