Research and Company Report The research and company report will be an exercise in the student’s ability to consume, synthesize, and apply what is learned in the class, the reading assignments and the research materials. The student will choose a global company in an industry and write a report on that company. They must utilize primary sources on the company in writing their reports and follow scholarly methods in conducting research, organizing the report and citing references. The company must be approved by the instructor before students initiate working on and writing their reports. The time for submitting a short abstract on the company is marked in your syllabus. The reports are 15-20 pages in length. Students must concentrate on critical questions and information that accurately depict how the selected company performs in the marketplace and establishes its competitive advantage. Students will read Introduction: Analyzing a Case Study and Writing a Case Study Analysis from their text, Strategic Management, in order to understand how to write a report on a company. They also take into consideration the following questions in their company report: • The organizational structure of the company and its governance. Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility • The strategic leadership of the company • The competitive advantage of the company and how the company takes advantage of its competitive advantage in the marketplace • The financial viability and growth of the company • How the company formulate and implement strategy at the functional, business and global level • How the company’s strategic planning relates to domestic and global expansion and growth • How the company use technology to perform and advance competitive advantage? • How the company sees its own environment in its own business and industry • How the company’s corporate level strategy relates to horizontal and vertical integration • How Michael Porter’s model applies to the company • How Peter Senge’s Learning Organization Model applies to the company • What SWOT analysis can tell us about the company • How the company market its product and compete in the market place • How the company develops competitive advantage and compete effectively across industries and countries Presentation (for students who participate in a class-not online or executive format) Students are asked to report on and lead discussion during the semester on topics and company case studies in the domain of strategic management. Each presentation can take up to 20 minutes with 10 minutes of questions, answers and discussion. These reports are presented by utilizing IT technologies. Teams of students are also asked to present their company research report at the end of the semester in a public forum. Students must also utilize technology, including PowerPoint for their presentations. Each presentation on the major projects and reports can take up to 40 minutes with another 20 minutes for questions and answers depending on how many students have prepared the report
