Company Background and Issues:
Eagle Valley Health Foods is an Australian company that produces healthy, organic snack bars made of dried fruits, and cereals. The business has been operating out of Adelaide, South Australia for 3 years, and has recently begun to make a small profit with the increased public focus on healthy eating.
The CEO of Eagle Valley Health Foods, Mr Martin Clifton, wants to further develop their profile by improving the Corporate Sustainability focus of the company. He believes that a better sustainability profile will not only enhance the company reputation, but also help the company finances in the long term.
You are a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) consultant with the task of advising clients on how best to implement sustainable practices in order to incorporate CSR initiatives into their organisations.
It has been identified that Eagle Valley Health Foods could improve the packaging of its product, which is currently made from polypropylene. A more sustainable method of packaging is expected to be more desirable for the product’s target market, in addition to being more environmentally friendly.
Another issue which the CEO would like addressed is that production of the health bars consumes large amounts of water. As water rates have been increasing rapidly in the last 2 years, the CEO is keen to try and reduce water consumption where possible.
