Task 1 is a formative peer assessment
1) You will be allocated into groups and provided with a case study.There are three roles in this task; the listener, the patient, the observer. The observer is tasked with giving feedback to the listener about their active listening skills. You will be required to undertake all three roles (arrangements will be made to ensure all students complete the three roles as numbers dicate within the tutorial. This will be organised by the tutor on the day).
Discuss how you felt giving and receiving feedback. As a team identify what are three key things about active listening that apply to nursing? The point of this is for the team to clarify the key messages, negotiate within themselves as to which 3 are most important.
The group will then present their findings to the class (2 minutes). The activity to this point is to be assessed as satisfactory/unsatisfactory.
 
Task 2 is an individual summative assessment
2) Complete an individual reflection (using Gibbs reflective model) following the tutorial group activity. The reflection will be to reflect on the tutorial activity and the role/roles you undertook as well as discuss the 3 key messages identified by your group. The reflection will in the format of an essay with an introduction into the reflection and then sub headings that giude the reflective cues and finally a conclusion. The reflection will need to be supported with appropriate academic references.

This assessment task allows students the opportunity to practice in accordance with the nursing profession's codes of ethics and conduct, facilitate and encourage group decision making, seek and consider feedback from colleagues about, critically reflect on own communication and, facilitate mutual sharing of knowledge and experience with colleagues relating to individual or group problems
