On admission Mrs Akimoto’s full personal details must be obtained, including DOB, sex, any known allergies and patient medical history. The nurse should immediately complete a full set of observations, including B/P, pulse, resp, temp, o2 sat and bgl. A pain assessment should also be completed as soon as possible to assist in determining the level of pain being experienced. A dopler test should be completed on the lower extremities due to the injury sustained to ensure there is a pulse in the injured leg and compare it to the other pulse of the non-injured leg. As mrs akimoto is booked for surgery a consent form for this procedure must be filled out and singed. Full blood works should be obtained prior to surgery.
