c)  Making use of the Literature
Your essay must be academic in focus and therefore must be grounded in academic literature e.g. text books and journal articles. Make sure sufficient literature is available before finalizing your essay title, scan text books and journal articles for information that will help you write your essay. When using literature in your essay use as many sources as possible, try to summaries an author’s point of view, and always back up your ideas and observations with suitable references. When referencing use the Harvard style referencing (if you are unsure consult you lecturer) It is essential to reference all material you have used. Keep a complete and accurate bibliography. d) Critical Evaluation
The essay is a critical evaluation. A critical evaluation means moving from simply describing to interpretation, explaining and evaluating a subject. To be critical we must engage with a subject, break down assumption, investigate flaws and understand all sides of an argument. As such you should question what others have said in the literature, compare different points of view, look for discrepancies and identify gaps in knowledge. To achieve this formulate discussion section where you can evaluate differing points of view, additionally the good use of a range of examples and cases is an effective means of establishing and backing up points you have made.
