Business Question
What is the most effective way to increase student engagement in on-line in MBA subjects offered by Chifley Business School.
The context of “Student engagement” refers to the level of participation by students in on-line forum discussions, Q&A posts, live “Collaborate” sessions and any other interactions aimed at increasing the quality of learning through sharing experiences across functions, disciplines or cultures.
Why is online student engagement so important?
Can answering the business question highlight the solution options to deliver outcomes that will change the business in towards the desired way? If we ask 3 key questions
1.“How am I doing?” There is some intermittent online student engagement, but not to a point that it is supplementing the classroom engagement of campus students
2.“What drives my business” Well educated online students who become promotor’s of their online experience with the Chiefly Business School stimulating their networks of contact to consider Chiefly and the reputation of Chiefly online educated students within the Australian business environment as a quality qualification.
3.“Who are my customers and what are their needs?” (Jain, Piyanka, Jayaraman, Lakshmi, Sharma, Puneet, 2014) – Online students need to feel a relationship with their university and need to engage in Online forums to listen, interpret and interact with the views of their colleagues replicating a standard classroom environment.

a.Online engagement has no grade value and online students are time poor and focused primarily on utilising their time towards achieving their grades.
