Select a large IT, engineering or construction project that took more than a year to complete and cost
more than $2 million. This project could be one with which you were directly involved, run at your
place of work or a project discussed in the public domain. For example, well publicised projects
include the Collins Class submarines, Lane Cove tunnel, Cross-city tunnel, Olympic Games, T-Card,
Patronas Twin Towers in Malaysia, development of Aegis missile system, etc.
Provide a report discussing and critiquing the management of this project. The report should include:
· Introduction
What were the project objectives, proposed deliverables, key stakeholders and expected benefits?
Why was this project selected for review?
· Project management critique
Noteworthy management items and how they were actioned. What was critical? What areas were
managed well and/or not so well? What makes running of this project different from others?
· Project success/failure
Were expectations met and/or benefits realised? In your view what were the main contributing
factors? Why did these factors occur?
· Conclusions
What have you learned about running a project from examining this endeavour? What would you
do differently if you were in charge?
