1- Business and Society Assessment: Team case study report Assessment overview This purpose of this assessment task is to apply the knowledge gained in Weeks 1-8 of this unit to produce a team case study report. Working in teams of 3-4 students, and by drawing on the concepts and theories you have explored in the unit, you'll produce a case study report which is informed by the literature. Reports are used in many fields to communicate information in an organised and structured way. They are prevalent within business environments and thus form an authentic assessment task. An employee who can analyse issues and provide solutions, backed-up by evidence, is a valuable asset for any organisation. Working as a team to produce this report will provide you with an opportunity to hone your teamwork skills. These skills are directly transferable to workplace environments where individual and team accountability is expected. This task is assessing your ability to demonstrate that you meet the criteria for the following unit learning outcomes: 1. Research and demonstrate an awareness of important issues and trends highlighting the business-society inferface, including issues related to ethics and sustainable business practice. 2. Undertake social analysis to explore the nature of business and economic processes, considering the different perspectives and priorities. 3. Work individually and collaboratively to produce well-reasoned and evidenced arguments that address major societal issues from the perspective of diverse stakeholder interests. 4. Explore and critique contemporary, cross-cultural and cross-functional initiatives such as public-private partnerships, microfinance operations, and social enterprise. Assessment details In Week 4, your eLA will discuss the formation of small teams, of 3-4 students. Over weeks 5-9, you'll collaborate with your team members in the Group Wiki in Blackboard to research and develop the foundations for your team case study report, for submission by Monday of Week 10. Over weeks 5-8 of this unit, the whole learning group discussion board activities and team Group Wiki activities will enable you and your team to gain further insight and understanding necessary for the completion of your team's case study report. For this report, your team will: 1. Identify an industry (e.g. manufacturing, automotive, retail) in which business development will depend increasingly on broad consideration of creating value for stakeholders. 2. Within the industry selected by your team, choose an existing or potential organisation. Identify its business mission and vision and features of its business model. 3. Write a team report identifying how shared value could be created by adapting or developing the business model to further consider stakeholder interests. Any references you use should be appropriately cited using Harvard style. The team charter you developed during the Week 5 activity is an essential part of establishing a common focus for this task. It should be appended to your report to attract an automatic 5% of the overall mark for this assessment. Please note: the team charter is not included in the word count for this assessment. Non contribution to team work A team assessment is the collective responsibility of the entire team, and if one member is temporarily unable to contribute, the team should be able to reallocate responsibilities to keep to schedule. In the event of longer-term illness or other serious problems involving a member of a team, it is the responsibility of the other members to make the eLA aware of the situation as soon as possible. Team assessments must be submitted listing all team members and team name. All team members must be satisfied that the work has been correctly submitted. Any penalties for late submission will apply to all team members, not just the person who submitted. The eLA reserves the right, if appropriate, to allocate a different mark to any individual within the team who does less than his or her fair share towards a team-related assessment. ________________________________________ Submission details Please submit your assignment through Turnitin. Marketing managers select research suppliers and brief the agencies on what they expect from the research. They should also monitor the research process to try to ensure that the research is performed in an effective and efficient manner and that the data produced is reliable. This assessment therefore requires you to set research objectives, consider the strategic role of the research and the type of information expected, as well as outline the key considerations at each stage in the research process. Your report should take the approach that you are the marketing team from either Coles, Woolworth, Aldi or Metcash writing a detailed brief (as required below) to a market research agency about the gap analysis research you wish them to undertake. More specifically the assessment will: • develop your ability to work in a team • help develop skills in desk research (library and Internet search), collating, presenting and interpreting information, as well as the essential skill of accurate referencing • develop your skill in writing concisely and to the point. ________________________________________ Assessment details Generally marketing managers do not perform the actual market research. However, they do frequently commission and oversee market research projects, as well as interpret data. Ultimately marketing managers make decisions on the basis of these research findings. You will be working in teams for this exercise. These teams will be formed by your eLA and the team composition posted on the discussion board. This assessment requires you, as the marketing management team, to consider the research process and decision making for a satisfaction survey of shoppers at a supermarket either Coles, Woolworth, Aldi or IGA (Metcash) using the gap analysis approach covered in the unit. This is a very relevant topic since quantitative evaluation of customer satisfaction and service quality is a common research activity conducted by many businesses. Note: Please do not actually conduct any primary market research for this assignment, rather just consider the research design and process involved in gap analysis satisfaction research from the marketing manager’s perspective. ________________________________________ Structure of the research plan 1.
