Select ONE area of concern which can be practically addressed by the

introduction of a structured mentoring/coaching training program for

individuals or small groups, such as manual handling or emergency

procedures, etc. The training must provide specific, clear and accurate

information to the work team on the workplace hazard being addressed.

Develop an outline of the mentoring or coaching training program (of

about 1000 – 1500 words – the use of lists and point form is appropriate)

which addresses the area of concern. In your outline you will need to

consider the following areas and you may choose to use them as headings

in your answer:

 List principles of coaching and mentoring

 List Principles of adult learning

 List Australian risk management principles

 Identify WHS training needs in line with legislative requirements (e.g.

induction or first aid or fork lift etc.)

 Identify the organisation’s policy and procedures or a proposed policy

and procedures for that WHS need (if applicable) e.g. manual handling

policy

 List the job titles of those who will participate in the training

 How will you consult with stakeholders/employees about the training -

list the consultation methods

 How the training will be arranged – i.e. on-the-job or off-the-job or both?

 List and attach a completed mentoring or coaching agreement between

the two parties.

 Identify the organisation’s reporting mechanisms (to monitor the

effectiveness of the mentoring or coaching and other training. Are there

annual reports, audits, injury and incident statistics etc. kept that can be

monitored to ensure the training actually happens and was useful?
