The project would emphasis to compare the performance of the two public listed companies. The two companies selected for this research project are Qantas Airways and Virgin Australian Airlines. There are steps that organizations go through starting from their very inception and this is known as organizational life cycle and it continues to the termination of that organization. These steps are sequences of advancements that are not random events (Rowcroft, 2014). The pillars of those steps are growth, maturity, and decline. Both of these organizations are in their maturity stage and this research project would compare the financial performance of these two airlines. In order to understand which stage of the life cycle a particular organization is actually going through the assessment must be continual and intentional and involving all units within the organization. An internal system must be devised that outlines exactly what will be used to monitor the sequence of growth or demise associated with the development of that organization (Cui, 2015). In this research project, the researcher would be interested to do the comparative financial study of these two organizations. The research should help the investors to get an understanding of the financial situation of these two firms and based on this finding, the investors can prioritize their investment in these two firms (Zikmund, 2012). The specific research questions of this research work can be discussed as: 2.0 Research Questions i. What is the financial performance of Qantas Airways as compared to Virgin Airlines? ii. Between Qantas Airways and Virgin Airlines, which company should be a preferred choice for retail investors in Australia? 3.0 Research Methodologies & Techniques The research methodology section is probably the most important section for any research. The accomplishment of research objectives would ultimately depends on the research methods and techniques. The research hypothesis sets the basic ground of research methodology. The research hypothesis of this research work can be discussed as: 3.1 Research Hypothesis The financial performance of Qantas Airways is better than the financial performance of Virgin Airlines. The research would start with this initial hypothesis and as part of this research; this hypothesis would stands true or false. The research hypothesis would be tested with the use of dependent and independent variables. The objective of the research would be to collect the information directly from the people who have the good knowledge of subject. To complete the primary research, interviews would be held with the employees of Qantas Airways and Virgin Airlines. The interviews would also be held with the educated investors who regularly invest in the firms in Australian airlines industry. The researcher would also analyze the annual report of these firms as part of the research (Robson, 2011). The financial statements and financial ratio analysis of these two firms would be key data points for the researcher. 3.4 Secondary Research Methods The secondary research would be an important phase of this research (Pickard, 2013). As a part of secondary research, the researcher would analyze the financial performance of these two firms. The researcher would take the data from previous researches for these two airlines. It is important that the research methods should be fit into the research process. The research process of this comparative research can be discussed as: Research Process The difference phases of the research work can be discussed as: Phase 1: Identify the research problem This research work would focus on the two public listed companies in the Australian market.
