Question 1 – Inventory Management (Refer to attachment Page 290 – 315) a) The textbook states that ‘inventory should accumulate only when the advantages of having it outweigh its disadvantages’ (Slack et al. 2015, p.296). Select two inventory items held in your organisation (or any organisation you are familiar with), and critically evaluate whether the advantages of holding these outweighs their disadvantages. b) Different classes of inventory should be controlled using different inventory management decision rules based on the priority of stock items. Assume that you are an operations manager of a large-sized organisation. Using practical examples, explain how you would control the inventories. Question 2 – Capacity Management (Refer to attachment Page 255 – 288) Evaluate the capacity of one facility in the supply network of an organisation that you are familiar with. You are expected to discuss the following decisions: the optimum capacity level, scale of capacity and the demand-capacity balance. Select one process or an operation in a company you are familiar with, and critically evaluate how the four core planning and control activities are performed.
