Case Study 1 Task 1: Summarise the case project (point form) according to your understanding of the brief under
the following categories:
• Strategic Business Objectives;
• Project Objectives;
• Key Performance Indicators; (ie measure of success)
• Major Deliverables; and Major Milestones.
Task 2
Brainstorm in your team to identify the challenges in project management of STCRQP over
the life of the project in terms of components that make up the project scope. Identify the
challenges to achievement of the business case requirements.
Case Study 2 Task 1: Identify strategies that you would like to employ to ensure that the business case
requirements will be met. Your strategies should address the challenges identified earlier.
Use Table 1 to summarise the strategies you have developed.
An example could be the case of site clean up and certification. What was the challenge in
achieving this result? What is your strategy to deal with the same? If we believe thechallenge is to get the site cleaned up in say 3 months and for about $1million (notional
figure) then in response to these challenges one strategy could be as follows;
1. Do some research (including historical information) to understand the background
information on this problem (always advisable to get to the bottom of the matter via
all the available information);
2. If necessary, enter into an early contract for a consultant to do a quick and cheap site
investigation to get an estimate of the size of the problem;
3. Employ an incentive contract with a specialist contractor with bonus for early
completion and penalty for late completion, to satisfy the EPA requirements for clean
up certification. Use the consultant’s report for scoping the clean up contract and
setting of an appropriate incentive-penalty scheme.
4. Organise for EPA inspection and clean up certification.

Table 1. (2 Pages)
Task 2
Compile brief report for the Executive Management Committee (2 pages should be
maximum as they will not read long reports) summarising your overall strategies for
delivering the project to meet the business case needs
