Title: Evaluation of the sustainability of an organisation’s operations Assignment Sustainability in operations management offers a key competitive advantage to organisation. There are examples of organisations that have been able to balance profitability with the needs to the planet and people (e.g. employees and community). There are always opportunities for improvement in sustainable operations management, even for organisations that have made great advances in this area. Identify an organisation that you are familiar with and evaluate the sustainability of the organisation’s operations from the perspective of product/ service and packaging design, production/ manufacturing and supply chain management (including logistics and inventory). Provide recommendations on how the organisation may improve the sustainability of its operations. i. The organisation identified must be comprehensively described. This should include the number of employees, approximate revenue and industry/ sector. ii. The evaluation must be in terms of the efficiency and effectiveness of the operations (i.e. profitability), its environmental-friendliness (i.e. planet) and its treatment of stakeholders (i.e. people). iii. The recommendations must address the gaps identified in the evaluation i.e. specific (for coherence), realistic and be time-bound. Recommendations may be phased i.e. broken down into smaller steps implemented over a period time. iv. Academic (e.g. articles from the Journal of Operations Management) and professional (e.g. Supply Chain Council) literature must be used in your essay.
