Homeostasis refers to the tendency and the ability of the cells to maintain a steady internal, physical and chemical condition, by the living beings. The maintenance of the body temperature and the fluid balance are regarded as the examples of the system of Homeostasis. It is a dynamic process, as the body also tries to resist against the external or the environmental changes. The process of homeostasis is a natural resistance process if the body of the living organisms therefore, in order t cope with the external stimuli, it is often seen that the body sometimes develop a coping ability within the system. The pH balance within the body, the maintenance of the ratio of the minerals and salt within the living organisms, all fall under the examples of the Homeostasis process. Therefore, the definition of the process can be described in the following ways.

Homeostasis refers to the ability to maintain the internal stability in an organism to compensate and to account the environmental changes. For example, the human body has a temperature of 98.6 degrees, and it is changed only on case of external stimuli or environmental causes.

The term Homeostasis also refers to the states of equilibrium of an organism or a cell or a body, and this state of equilibrium is maintained by the self- regulating processes. For example, the human kidneys maintain a homeostatic system in the body by regulating and controlling the amount of salt and water within the body and excrete the amount of water which is not necessary. The system of regulating and controlling the water refers to the self- regulation process undertaken by the Kidney.

Another definition of the system is that the body is said to following a hemostasis process when the internal organs coordinate with each other to maintain the internal processes and to account the environmental changes. For example, the blood regulation process within the human body, where, to maintain and continue the regulation process properly and successfully, all the parts and organs needed join together and cooperate each other.

The term Homeostasis had come from two Greek words, Homeo, that means Similar, and Stasis, that means Staying Still, therefore, the term basically refers to the maintaining an existing system or negating or resisting the process of change or just keeping the same thing stay the same. Hence, the metabolic functioning, the maintenance of the fluid level, water level and temperature within the body of living organisms are therefore referred as the Homeostasis process, which is done by the cooperation of the internal organs.
