Question
The following task is to be demonstrated and assessed in conditions that are safe and replicate the workplace. Noise levels, production flow, interruptions and time variances must be typical of those experienced in the telecommunications – project management field of work and include access to:
- Sites on which projects may be designed
- Relevant databases, legislative requirements and other project related documentation
For this task you are to complete the following activity to demonstrate your ability to prepare a detailed design brief.
To prepare for the task, complete the following actions to evaluate the design requirements:
1 Consult the legislation, codes, regulations and standards that are relevant to and impact on the project to identify and assess their implications for project design
2 Referencing the telecommunications project plan and associated project brief, to determine and document the need for enhancement to the new or existing telecommunications network
3 Using collated data from other relevant sources, determine and document the specific purpose and type of network growth and enhancement
4 Consult the client regarding the enterprise criteria, and determine and note the timeframe for the design plan
5 Establish and document the design resource requirements, and organise these
Evaluate information to prepare the design drawings through completion of the following steps:
6 Where the project impacts on private property, conduct consultation with the affected property owners to obtain site access
7 Collect field data, and use this to identify, propose and document ways to manage physical impediments that may affect building construction work
8 To plan for network growth, verify the existing equipment, equipment layouts and building services
9 Ascertain and note the impact of relevant heritage, environmental and other governmental legislation, and initiate action or organise consultative processes to gain approvals, according to enterprise policy
10 Working according to enterprise requirements, prepare the design drawing
Undertake the following steps to select the design option:
11 Analyse the proposed network needs to determine, and document, a set of realistic design options
12 Working according to approved enterprise criteria, and in discussion with the client, evaluate and select the preferred design option.
13 Assess the system compatibility, making design modifications as needed.
To prepare the design plan, complete the following actions:
14 Prepare and document the detailed design plan including relevant geographical and topological information, equipment and material and cost estimates
15 Consult with the planners and project management to discuss the final designs and to obtain approval to proceed
16 Produce the final detailed design brief with the required drawings, material requirements, and testing and maintenance plans for the operational staff to follow
