Identify three piece of media: one film*, one piece of literature* and one piece of multimedia* that relate to both your area of education (ie early childhood, primary, middle school, secondary) AND to an aspect of inclusion (see exclusionary factors download in modules). Watch/read/play these items and then briefly describe and summarise them in a table (see below). For example if you chose to look at Poverty in a Middle Years classroom you might chose Dangerous Minds for film, Dust (a children’s book) for literature and SimCity for multimedia (200 words)
2. From the readings and your own searches of the literature discuss the theoretical terms deficit, normalisation (both understandings), social and cultural capital, and neoliberalism, explaining how they relate to inclusion/exclusion in the educational context. (1000 words)
3. Using these theoretical understandings of inclusion/exclusion and the three pieces of media, analyse and critique current mainstream educational practices of inclusion, in your specific area of education, as they relate to the issue of inclusion you have chosen; also explore how you might use each resource, in your specialty area, to teach about inclusion to your own students.
