INTE1130 Industry Awareness Project
Task
INTE1130 Industry Awareness Project is the initial component of a 24-credit point research sequence. The subsequent component is INTE1131 Industry Linkage Project. Both capstone courses build on the capabilities acquired during your previous and concurrent studies within MC159 Master of Cyber Security.
In INTE1130 Industry Awareness Project you will conduct a substantial industry-oriented project that must demonstrate elements of research and enquiry. INTE1131 Industry Linkage Project provides the opportunity to implement the ideas that were researched in INTE1130 and engage with an industry partner.
In INTE1130 Industry Awareness Project you will put into practice ideas you have been nurturing regarding pursuit of a professional career or postgraduate research in a particular sphere of information security or other IT related field. You will investigate the requisite information to develop real world solutions to real world information security problems in that area. You will be expected to work in teams to complete a literature survey; identify the project you propose to undertake; and relate it to your industry scenario.
In the first weeks of semester you will form a team (usually two people) and be allocated an academic supervisor. Your team will negotiate meeting times across the semester.
Your report should be written in English in a professional style. Points will be deducted for typing and gramatical problems. Please proof read your report. The Study and Learning centre is available for assistance on report writing.
Use diagrams, figures and tables to illustrate the concepts. Please draw our own images, or cite your sources.
During the semester you will need to keep a record of your project meetings, task allocated, and tasks completed. You should include this in a project management appendix to your report.
As you research and take notes, you must also note where you read each statement. Your report must contain citations in the text as well as a reference list. You may use any citation convention you like (eg. Harvard, APA, IEEE, Footnotes). Copying text or images without citation is academic misconduct and will be reported.
You should read literature from the RMIT library, government databases, vendor publications, technology news, and blog posts. You should evaluate the biases, reliability and currency of each document.
You should analyse a contemporary industry scenario using your literature search as context. Develop your understanding of the risks and challenges by comparing and critically evaluating the documents that you read.
The report is written by a team, but should read as one cohesive report. You will need to edit and proofread each-others writing. You may use a collaborative writing platform to assist in blending your writing into one document.
Your report should propose solutions to an industry challenge. Each solution should be discussed, as solutions often create other risks.
