Cylinder is defined as the stable structure which comprises of two parallel faces along with two circular kind of bases. The radius of the respective circular base is defined as the distance between the centre of the base to the edge of the overall cylinder. The two bases of the cylinder are the ones which are perpendicular to one another to respective faces of the cylinder.

In order to calculate the volume as well as surface area of the cylinder, there are few aspects which needs to be identified such as Radius, Pi and height. Radius is the distance from centre to edge of circles at each of the ends. Pi is one of the special numbers which us utilised in circles and the value of Pi is 3.14. The height is the length of cylinder.

The surface area of cylinder is defined as surface area of both circles at each of the ends plus surface area of the outside portion of tube. The formula of analysing surface area is as follows:

Surface area = 2πr2 + 2πrh wherein,
h = height
π = 3.14

From the respective figure, it can be identified that there should be proper application of radius as well as height to figure out both the volume along with surface area of the cylinder. The formula of the cylinder is expressed as follows:

Curved surface area=2πrh
Total Surface area= 2πr (r + h)

From the formula, it can be identified that the total surface area includes area of circular top as well as base along with the curved surface area. On the other hand, the total surface area of the cylinder is with radius ‘r’ and height ‘h’ which will be given.
Example
A cylinder has a base radius 6cm and height is 8cm. From the above, calculate total surface area and volume of cylinder.
The given parameters are given as follows:

r is 6 cm
h is 8 cm

The surface area of the cylinder is analyzed as follows:

= 2πr (r + h)
= 2π x 6 (6 + 8)
= 2π x 5 x 14

Answer = 439.6 cm2

Example

Analysis of surface area of cylinder with radius 4cm and height 6cm

Surface area= 2πr2 + 2πrh
= (2*3.14*4*4) + (2*3.14*4*6)
= 100.48 + 150.72
Answer = 251.2 cm2

On the other hand, the volume of the cylinder is the amount of space it takes inside the cylinder and the answer will be delivered in cubic units. The formula of analysing volume of cylinder is:

Volume = πr2h

Example

Analysis of volume of cylinder with radius 2cm and height 4cm

Volume= πr2h
=3.14*2*2*4

Answer = 50.24 cm3

Therefore, from the overall analysis of the surface area and volume of the cylinder, it can be found that these help in analysing the volume related problems and the answers will be delivered in cubic units and on the other hand, the surface area problems will be found in square units.
