Public Policy

Public policy is the primary guide towards the action which is taken by the administration of the executive branches of the state in regard to the issues which are classified within a manner having consistency in the fields of law along with institutional customs.

The public policy’s foundation includes the constitution’s national laws and regulations. The further parts include both the interpretations belonging to the judiciary and regulations which are again normally authorized by the legislation. The public policy is only considered strong when it carries the ability to solve the problems efficiently and in an effective manner, serves the government institutions along with provision of support and again, encourages active citizenship. Other scholars have put forward a definition of public policy as, “courses of action, laws, funding priorities and regulatory measure concerned about a given topic monitored by a governmental representative”. Public policy is in common language, is controlled upon by the constitutions of the countries, the decisions taken by the judiciary and the legislative acts.

In the United States, the concept of the public policy not only refers to the end results of the policies, but also focuses broadly upon the decision-making and the analysis of the decisions taken by the government. As a reference to the academic discipline, the professors study the public policy and also the students are provided with the teaching of the public policy at the major universities of the country. The U.S professional association made up of the public policy practitioners, scholars, students and the researchers is the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management.

The building up of the public policy can be placed under categories of dynamic, complex and interactive as a system using which the problems related to public are identified and countered by the creation of the new public policy or by the reformation of the already existing public policy. The problem of the public can come up in numerous ways and each one of them require different policies to be entertained with, be it on the local, national and international level. The Government holds a legal monopoly to start or initiate the physical force to meet the new ends. The Public policy is making it a continuous process to take the feedbacks into consideration for the betterment of the working system.

Types of Public Policy

The types of Public Policy are basically of three types- Restrictive, Regulatory and Facilitating.

• Restrictive policies- these are the types of policies which provides benefits towards certain specific kinds of transactions or situations. One of such an example is, the government imposing custom duties on the goods that are being imported into the country.
• Regulatory policies- these are the policies which aim towards the regulation of the economy within the different sectors of the state or the country. These policies ensure no deviation from the government policies and the plans.
• Facilitating policies- these policies help towards the proper facilitation of the businesses all around the public and the private sector and hence, are referred to as the facilitating policies.
