This assessment task is designed to evaluate student’s following skills and abilities to: 

  • Implement a coaching strategy according to the operational requirements
  • Ensure coaches are supported according to relevant policies and procedures
  • Monitor, review and report on implementation, utilising coaching data to recommend improvements to the coaching strategy.

Assessment Instructions

  • This assessment can be done in a group of no more than 4 people. 
  • To make full and satisfactory responses you should consult a range of learning resources, other information such as handouts and textbooks, learners’ resources and slides. 
  • All questions must be answered in order to gain competency for this assessment.

Project task: 

This assessment task is in continuation on from Assessment Task 2. 

The student must analyse the outcomes of Assessment Task 2 before completing the activities given in this assessment task. In this assessment task, you are required to complete the following activities: 

  • Activity 1: Promote the coaching program
  • Activity 2: Recruit and select coaches and coachees
  • Activity 3: Establish tools, mechanisms and procedures for matching and managing the coach-trainee relationship. 
  • Activity 4: Induct, match and brief coaches and coachees
  • Activity 5: Develop SMART goals
  • Activity 6: Monitor the implementation of the coaching strategy
  • Activity 7: Provide professional development and support to the coaches. 

Activity 1: Promote coaching program

In this activity, you are required to promote the coaching strategy and program developed in Assessment Task 2. 

To do so, you are required to arrange a meeting with the following stakeholders: 

  • The Human Resources Manager
  • Marketing Manager 
  • Manager (Brisbane and Gold Coast branch).
  • These roles are to be played by the Assessor HR Manager and other students to play the roles of Marketing and Branch Manager (Online, the Zoom breakout rooms will used)

Before the meeting, you are required to prepare a presentation. The following content must be included in the presentation:

  • The scope of the strategy. 
  • Roles, responsibilities and outcomes for the following key individuals involved in the coaching strategy. 
    • The coaches 
    • Coachees
  • Checklists used to review, measures and evaluated the coaching strategy. 
  • Coaching approach and program.
  • Coaching model to be implemented.
  • Induction and training requirements. 
  • Tools and resources for coaches and coachees.
  • Recruitment processes. 

During the meeting, you are required to: 

  • Deliver a presentation on the coaching program. 
  • Use appropriate language to provide information and encourage discussion. 
  • Apply listening and questioning techniques to check and confirm understanding. 
  • You will also be required to record meeting minutes in the template provided below.

Activity 2: Recruit and select coaches and coachees

In this activity, you are required to recruit and select two (2) coaches and two (2) coachees. 

Your trainer/assessor will arrange candidates for you to interview for both positions (coaches and coachees). 

The recruitment and selection process is to be done based on the recruitment process developed in Activity 7 – Assessment task 2. 

To do so, you need to: 

  • Advertise the position descriptions. Write an effective advertisement. 
  • Conduct interviews. 
    • Ask the sample interview questions prepared. 
    • Use the “Essential traits and competencies of coachees and trainee’s checklist” created to assess behaviours. 
  • Use the Recruitment and Selection Processes Template to select coaches and coachees.

Activity 3: Establish tools, mechanisms and procedures for matching and managing coach-trainee relationship

In this activity, you are required to establish tools, mechanisms and procedures: 

  • Matching coach-coachee relationship
  • Managing coach-coachee relationship

Activity 4: Induct, match and brief coaches and trainees

In this activity, you are required to induct, match and brief coaches and coachees selected in the recruitment process. Your trainer/assessor will provide you with information regarding the location where the task is to be carried out.  

The induction is to be carried out in accordance with the induction and training package developed in Activity 4 – Assessment task 2. 

You need to perform the following: 

  • Provide them with the training considering the coaching strategy developed. 
  • Demonstrate ability to follow policies and procedures of the organisation. 
  • Explain the grievance/complaints procedure
  • Discuss the tools and equipment used during the coaching program. 
  • Discuss the relevant contact numbers (trainer/assessor to provide).
  • Discuss the timetable for coaching sessions and meeting. 

Your trainer/assessor will observe you inducting, matching and briefing coaches and coachees. 

Activity 5: Develop SMART goals

In this activity, you are required to develop SMART goals for monitoring the implementation of the coaching strategy with the work practices and operational requirements. 

You must use the template SMART Goal setting provided to document your response. 

Activity 6: Monitor the implementation of coaching strategy 

Scenario: 

The coaching strategy has been implemented. The coaches are providing coaching to the employees and the team members. 

The management has asked you to monitor its implementation. They have asked you to monitor the performance of coaches in the implementation of coaching strategy. 

As an HR Manager, you have asked the coaches to the employees the following: 

Coach 1:   

  • To provide coaching to the team members on working effectively in a team. 

Coach 2: 

  • To provide coaching to an employee who is not able to meet the performance targets. 

Task: 

You are required to monitor coaches providing coaching to the employees. When monitoring the coaches, you need to: 

  • Ensure coaches are implementing coaching strategy consistent with the work practices and operational requirements. 
  • Monitor the coaching activities and relationships and collect data on achievement of SMART goals, while ensuring consistency of the implementation plan. 
  • Identify professional development and support requirements considering their performance. 
  • Identify differences and problems in coaching relationships. 
  • Recognise and acknowledge positive contribution individuals make to coaching activities. 
  • Review results from monitoring; evaluate all data to determine the outcome of the coaching program. 

You also need to prepare a report for the management detailing: 

  • All the outcomes of the monitoring activities. 
  • Ongoing opportunities for coaching in accordance with individual and organisational context and needs. 
  • Your findings and recommendations for improvement of coaching strategy. 

Activity 7: Provide professional development and support to the coaches

After evaluating the outcomes of activity 6, management has asked you to design techniques and practices for resolving differences and problems in coaching relationships and provide professional development and support to the coaches.

You need to: 

  • Develop techniques and practices for resolving differences and problems. 
  • Conduct a formal session with the coaches. 
  • Demonstrate the techniques and practices for resolving differences and problems. 
  • Provide professional development and support to the coaches and include the professional development needs identified in Activity 6.
