Case Study: Rideone Bicycle
Rideone Bicycle is a popular bicycle shop located near Sydney City. The business has grown and the owner, David Rod, wants to develop new information system to handle all business operation.
Rideone Bicycle sells several brands of new bikes, including everything from folding bicycle, city bicycle to freight bike. In addition to sales of new bikes and accessories, David also have service department.
The staff includes David himself, an accountant, 2 part-time marketing staffs, a full-time mechanic, and several part-time helpers who repair and assemble bicycles.
Before opening the shop five years ago, David worked for many years in an auto dealership, Strathfield Motors, and he learned all about the automobile business.
Rideone Bicycle has a similar business model but on a smaller scale. For example, sales orders are recorded on paper forms, and service requests are also written up in similar fashion of an automobile business. David’s customers find him fair and reasonable. He likes to say that the main difference between his business and other bicycle retailer is that he knows his customers and will do whatever it takes to keep them happy. But as he is facing competition from online bicycle shop, he is worried about losing his customer base.
