The COVID-19 outbreak has presented unprecedented circumstances before the fragile tourism and hospitality industry. The highly infectious novel coronavirus continues to thwart the sector and raises serious questions about the present and future survival of the sector.
You are to explore the impact COVID-19 had on the hospitality industry and provide recommendations on how the industry will survive, in a post-pandemic world. Your report will address two important concerns, first, pertains to the major challenges the hospitality and tourism industry faces amid current conditions; and second relates to the vital learnings for the industry.
Your response must address the following points:
- Amid the current conditions, identify the major challenges facing the hospitality and tourism sector.
- Discuss how the industry is responding to the changes brought about by the pandemic.
- Identify the strategies being adopted by a specific sector within the industry, provide an example of a business and explore how they have responded.
- Examine the role the visitor now plays in the post-pandemic industry.
- Explore what learnings the industry can undertake, with regards to sustainability and survivability.
- How will the industry survive? Make recommendations based on your findings. A minimum of 3 recommendations must be put forward.
