MGT712 Corporate Governance and Corporate Social Responsibility
Task:
Background:
An ethical dilemma occurs when we are faced with an ethical problem that has no easy resolution. We may have a number of options open to us, but no option is an ideal solution to our problem. Whichever option we choose, some stakeholder/s will be negatively affected.
Ethical dilemmas are not easily resolved but, sometimes looking at the problem through an ethical lens can help us to make a decision that, while we may not be entirely happy with the resolution (because someone’s rights or interests have been harmed), we are able to justify the decision taken.
Purpose of the task:
This assessment requires you to take a position on a given ethical dilemma and justify your position. You need to judge the ethical scenario and make a sound ethical decision. As part of this report you will need to:
1. Discuss the importance of ethical decision making in the businesses.
2. Analyse the provided ethical dilemma and identify its positive and negative points.
3. Take a position (using ethical theories) to support or reject the provided ethical dilemma.
4. Critically evaluate your position and justify why did you take such position.
5. Discuss the role of corporate governance in the provided ethical dilemma and how directors and boards should act in such situation.
6. Develop a plan/recommendations to review and monitor the process of ethical decision making in the companies which could face similar ethical dilemmas.
