The objective of this unit is to find out ways and means to guide the behavior of the child and young people so that they can grow in a safe and supportive environment. This unit is highly beneficial for those who works as an educator, and community care services. The skills that will be gained in this unit should be applied in regard to the Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice. The are five parts that will be covered in this course these are- The first one- Contribute to a safe and supportive environment Under this the candidates will be able to learn how to provide safe and supportive environment so that the needs of the children and the young people are fulfilled, how to identify developmental challenges and other health issues in children so that maximum support can be given, also to identify the contributing environmental factors. The second one is- Use positive support techniques Under this part the candidates can learns ways as to how to consult with the supervisors regarding their role and their expectation for behavior, they will also get to know how to provide instruction based on the needs of the children and the young people, how to use positive reinforcement, and clear non-verbal communication, and also learn how to redirect behavior. The third one is- Observe and collect data to assist with development of appropriate strategies for support Here the candidates will learn as to how to collect data and observe these for understanding the behavior of the young people. The fourth one is- Implement strategies to support children or young people who require additional support Under this the candidates will understand about how to implement strategies for guiding the children properly, also they will come to know as to how to identify areas that are of concern, and finally acquire knowledge as how to make personalized support plans. The fifth and the last part is- Monitor and review strategies Here the candidates to learn how to monitor new strategies, document observation and provide feedback. In the context of the work function, the candidate must demonstrate the ability to fulfil tasks indicated in the components and performance requirements of this unit, manage tasks, and handle contingencies. This includes understanding of the following tasks such as- at least twice directed behavior using positive support approaches with at least two children and/or young people by communicating difficulties to a supervisor and negotiating solutions in a clear and acceptable way. Children and/or young people's behavior were addressed in order to plan and solve problems in partnership with others. Employing judgement to identify when to contact other staff for supported intervention, collected observations and identified behaviors requiring assistance of children and/or young people using a variety of approaches. As the evidence of knowledge, the students will able to understand the work role, the applicant must be able to demonstrate necessary knowledge required to effectively accomplish tasks listed in this unit's components and performance requirements, manage tasks, and handle contingencies. This includes understanding of: How learning difficulties or mental health issues may affect behavior impacts of environment and culture on behavior of children and/or young people definitions and differences between disruptive behavior and behaviors of concern Organizational norms, regulations, and procedures, as well as the communicative function of behavior and positive support measures to redirect conduct and defuse situations.
