As a filmmaker, your task is to create a 10-minute presentation to propose your new documentary idea to prospective investors. You may work alone, or with a small group. Ensure to include the following in your presentation: The Memoir: Hook the audience with an important message/idea from the memoir. (Quote) Summarize the narrative of the memoir, in a manner that will interest/engage the audience. Why must this memoir be turned into a documentary film? Why is it important for a specific modern audience to learn about this story? What is the purpose of the film? (3 minutes) Thesis: What do you want to say about your subject? Make a clear thesis claim regarding the significance of the story. (Topic + Opinion + Argument/Area of Investigation + Significance = Thesis) (1 minute) Scene/Storyboard Presentation: Select one scene from the memoir which will reveal your thesis. Design a polished storyboard to illustrate this scene. Use 8-11 frames to illustrate this scene. Include an appropriate quotation for each frame. The quotation must have relevance to the frame. Explain your selected Codes/Conventions - what makes these film techniques suitable to deliver your thesis to a specific audience? (4 minutes) Conclusion: Summarize your key ideas. Make an impactful statement. Convince the investors to “buy into” your film.
