James Patterson is a well renowned writer in the literary world. He writes stories which are unique and set in the future. One of the series of books written by him is that of the “Maximum Ride” series which talks about fictional entities and science experiments.

The first book in the series of the “Maximum Ride” is “Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment”. This book deals with certain hybrid human beings who are part human and part avian in nature. In other words, there are human beings with wings on their backs. They were created by certain scientists. However, with the aid of the leader of the flock, Angel, these hybrid individuals decided to flee from their masters.

The story starts from the time when Angel is kidnapped by a group of people known as the “Erasers”. They drag him back to the laboratory called “The School” where Angel and others like him were created. The other members of the human-avian group, Nudge, Max and Fang left their home in order to rescue their friend while Gasman and Iggy decided to stay at home and make bombs in order to protect themselves from the “Erasers”.

On their way to rescue Angel, Max decided to save a girl called Ella. During this time. Max was shot on the shoulder who then had to seek the aid of Ella’s mother, Dr. Valencia Martinez. She revealed to Max that he had a tracking device implanted in his shoulder which made the “Erasers” aware of his location. Back home, Iggy and Gasman were successful in shielding themselves from the attack launched by the “Erasers” but they could not inflict any harm on them.

As they proceeded further, Nudge and Fang came across Nudge’s home town. In an attempt to meet his parents, Fang was harmed by an Eraser named Ari who managed to injure the party fo the two. However, Fang recovered fast and flew with Nudge to their home in the mountain. There they ended up meeting with Nudge, Gasman and Iggy.

The Erasers managed to capture all of the members of the Flock and brought them to The School. In his captivity, Angel got to know about the “Institute of Higher Living” in New York which would be able to give information about their past. The members of the Flock managed to escape The School. In the process, Max suddenly got a Voice in her head which gave her cryptic message about the Institute. Flying there, Max and the other found other mutants similar to them whom they freed.

Before leaving The Institute, Angel got a dog called Total and brought him along with him for the rest of the journey. However, before escaping, Max ended up in a fight with Ari who had to be killed. Max did manage to kill him by snapping his neck accidentally. The book came to an end with the Flock flying to Washington DC in search of their parents.
