1. You are the new HR manager of a non-unionized company. Shortly after you start work with this company, you recognize that there are ongoing issues with employee use of company electronic equipment and devices. There is extensive use of such equipment for personal matters during office hours. Furthermore, employees are freely discussing company information and venting work frustration on social media during or after work hours (including some badmouthing of supervisors and the company). Some of these cases have led to discipline and even dismissals in the past, but they have been handled inconsistently and on an ad hoc basis. Critically discuss why this situation needs to be addressed promptly, and propose a plan on how you would systematically deal with these issues (e.g., what policies and procedures are needed, and how they can be effectively implemented).

2. ABC Ltd. is an on-demand delivery service company based in Regina, SK. The company is a tech start-up with fewer than 50 employees. It has grown significantly over the last three years with an increase of 300% in its quarterly revenues in the last 12 months. Despite an excellent compensation and benefit system and employee reports that ABC is an exciting place to work, the turnover rate has doubled over the last eight months. The CEO is surprised by the turnover figures as he was expecting employees to stay in the company for a long time. Most of the employees who have left the company in the last eight months have reported stress as one of the major reasons for leaving the firm. While they agreed that they enjoyed their work at the company and were happy with the compensation package, the pace of work was faster than they had anticipated, resulting in dissatisfaction and burnout. As a consultant, what can you advise the CEO about the main causes of stress in his business? How can he reduce the turnover rate in the company? Illustrate your answer with examples.

What has made the non-traditional labour relations approach successful or unsuccessful? What could be done to further improve the relationships and outcomes?
