Select three ideas or topics that you learned about during weeks 1-5 (based on pre-class prep; lectures and guest presentations and/or in-class activities), which especially challenged your way of thinking and/or assumptions —i.e. introduced something that you had never considered before, expanded your existing view, or made you think of something in a completely new way? NB: The three ideas must be from three different weeks and be related to three different course concepts—i.e., one idea related to critical reflection; one idea related to human diversity; and one idea related to cultural safety and/or personhood (the latter two can be treated as one overlapping concept if you choose)
Be very specific about identifying what these ideas are, and describing what your initial thinking/assumption was about each of these ideas or issues, what factors may have influenced your original thinking/assumptions, in what way your thinking/assumptions have evolved, and what influenced this change (Something you read about in your pre-class prep? Something you learned in the lecture/presentation or discussion in class? A combination?). You can write the answers in the format of Ai., Aii, Aiii. [max. 6 pages, double-spaced]
Choose one of the ideas identified above. Describe (a) how what you learned about this idea will impact your future practice as a nurse; (b) what you still need to learn about this issue; and (c) what your plan is to ensure continued learning about this issue.
Be sure to clearly identify why an understanding of this issue is important to your future practice as a nurse. Be specific about future learning needs and the strategies that you will use to meet these learning needs. [max. 2 pages, double-spaced]
One of the goals of this course is to create a foundation for the development of nursing graduates who are advocates for equitable access to health care and the conditions for health and who engage in culturally safe, anti-oppressive nursing practice—i.e., nurses who are advocates for social justice.
Identify and explain a metaphor or simile that describes your learning, so far, in this course (see additional information about metaphors/similes on the next page). [100 words max, double-spaced]
