Based on the accompanying case, you will form a Joint Health and Safety Committee. (Remember to refer to the duties and responsibilities of a JHSC in the Occupational Health and Safety Act).

Choose half of the group to be worker representatives and the other half to be management representatives. Each group will choose its co-chair.

You will simulate the deliberations of a JHSC by debating the above accident with a view to coming up with recommendations to be made to the Senior Management of ABC Inc. for follow up action.  If possible, your recommendations should come with possible costs and a timeframe for implementation.

You will record on videotape the committee’s deliberations as they discuss the case and decide on recommendations.  The debate to be recorded will be at least 15 minutes in length.

In addition to the videotaped meeting of the JHSC, you will, in written form, present your recommendations to the Senior Management team.  Your recommendations will be presented in the form of a memorandum. (No more than 2 pages are needed). Any additional information that you see fit to submit will be in the form of an appendix.
