Brain Fitness Activities Research Report

Engaging in Brain Fitness Activities

The purpose of engaging in brain fitness is to create new and strengthened neural pathways by practising activities that are new to you. In this assignment you will be reporting back on this.

You will have been introduced to Brain Fitness Activities each week, up to and including Week 12. You will have been experimenting, practicing, monitoring and documenting the effects of these activities using the self observational based method found in the Brain Fitness Diary. You have also shared some results along the way in the two Research Study Circle Discussions.

For your Research, choose two Brain Fitness Activities to concentrate on. It is recommended that you start in enough time to practice them for at least two weeks prior to completing your final Report. To give your brain a workout, regular, frequent practice is ideal. A short time every day or every other day is better than no activity for several days in a row. However, you are the scientist here and this is your experiment. Your frequency is your choice.

You can choose activities that you’ve never done before, or you can choose an activity that you already enjoy but do it more often and add new components. You can also choose a good activity for brain neuroplasticity that was not provided in this course if you have one.

You can submit your research findings using any format you choose (visual, audio, video, written – any combination, PPT, Animoto, YouTube, etc). If your format is not accepted or too large for Blackboard you can use your OneDrive or Sharepoint, or another site you prefer and send me a link in Blackboard.

Did I identify both activities and are they different?

Choice and hypothesis

Have I explained why I chose each activity? Did I have an expectation, desire, bias, hypothesis about my experiment?

Time and Frequency

Have I clearly documented my time, frequency, regularity and intensity of practice for each of the activities? Did I make any modifications over time?

Document Effects

Have I clearly documented the effects/results that I experienced in all three areas: physical, emotional, and cognitive – in two or more intervals along the experiment timeline - for each activity?

Areas of Brain Involved

Have I described the activated regions of the brain for each activity and included a description of synaptic activity and/or relationship between regions?

Self perception

Have I described the ways that my research resonates with my cultural identity and/or my preferred style(s) of learning?
