Task:

For this assignment, you will take some of the skills and knowledge you have learned to critically analyze a media report. Your final assignment should be submitted in the submission folder on Brightspace. This assignment will be completed outside of class time and is worth 15% of your final grade. This is an individual assignment and should be completed alone - if you need support, please reach out to me or the Psychology Tutors.

By the end of this assignment you will be able to: 

1. Analyze and evaluate information using critical thinking, skeptical inquiry and knowledge of the scientific method

2. Summarize and paraphrase using APA in-text citation and referencing

Your Paper 

You will use the critical thinking skills outlined in your textbook to analyze your chosen media report. (As a reminder, this framework is outlined in the section What is Critical Thinking in Chapter 1 of your textbook.)

You should answer the following questions in 1000 words or less: 

1.What are the key points of the media report? What is the key claim being made? 

2.What is the source? (For this question, you should consider the 5 W framework discussed in the Can I Use This? Evaluating Your Sources tutorial completed for this course)

3.Is the claim reasonable or extreme? 

4.What is the evidence? 

5.Could bias contaminate the conclusion? 

6.Does the reasoning avoid common fallacies? 

7.Does the issue require multiple perspectives? 

8.What conclusions about this topic can you draw from your critical analysis?
