How to Write a Term Paper with APA Format Citation?
Answered

Requirements for the Term Paper

Students will prepare a term paper using the topic they chose for their Assignment #1- Annotated Bibliography. The term paper will be double-spaced, in 12 point font – Either Times New Roman or Arial. Submitted as either .doc files. No PDFs. The main body of the term paper must be 2300-2500 words in length – no more or less. This does not includethe bibliography or title page. In addition to the paper itself, it must also include: a bibliography in APA format in text citation (APA) any material directly quoted and/or paraphrased ideas from sources a cover page. The paper must also include a thesis statement which outlines the argument the student plans to make and support through their research. Sources: The paper must have 10 Sources At least half of those sources, that’s 5 sources, must be academic books or academic journal articles – NO EXCEPTIONS. The rest can be magazines, newspaper articles, or other primary online sources such as statistics Canada, Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples and such. One mark will be deducted for each missing academic source – ie: if you only use 2 books or journal articles – then two marks will be deducted for the missing sources – NO EXCEPTIONS. You cannot write an academic paper without academic sources. As students, you all have access to the library and journal articles online. If you don’t know how to locate them or search for them – please contact the library. The library has many ways you can contact them: 1-800-667-6014, or my instant message Ask Archer which is located on the homepage of this course. Tips & Hints Research – The annotated bibliography helped you select 5 sources and figure out how they might help you. Now you need to find 5 additional sources to make the 10 source minimum. Sources should help you prove your point. If they don’t, they are not a good source. Write a Thesis Statement. A thesis statement is the position you plan to argue. What are you trying to say in your paper? What sources are you using to back up that argument? EX: In this paper I will argue that the Indian Act changed the role of First Nations women in their communities and even denied them the same rights as men. This paper will examine how that affected First Nations women and their ability to be fully contributing members of their societies. Before you begin writing – lay out each point you plan to make. What sources allow you to make those points, and how will you use that source? Remember direct quotations, paraphrasing and even just using another academic’s theories – even if you do not directly quote them – requires you to cite their work! Please see the course outline and the University’s website for information about plagiarism and how it can impact your academic career. Finally, outline what conclusions you have made. Other stylistic points: - I have no preference when it comes to using sub-headings. If you want/or need them to organize your points and write the best paper possible – please feel free to use them. But you MUST use APA in text citation.
