In a simulated case study, a human pregnancy will be followed from the pre-conception stages to parturition and the postpartum period and the students will be able to apply these learned concepts in the modules. LO2- Explain the scientific basis of diseases of pregnancy to determine their implications on health in later life. LO3 - Critically assess scientific literature and media reports in human reproductive biology to support arguments in oral and written work. LO4 - Integrate course content through active discussion with peers to solve case-based problems related to pregnancy, parturition, and other topics in human reproduction. Assessment 1 – discussion Board Series Students will post responses to discussion questions that are provided on the discussion board,. These questions will be provided by the instructor that is related to the module content. The students are also required to respond to posts that are created by their peers, and their engagement in academic discussion. Assessment 2 – Adam and Eve: A case study This is a multi-part assignment. Students will be provided with a simulated case study involving human pregnancy. This case study will follow a couple’s journey from diagnosis of conception until parturition and post-partum. Students will be responsible for answering the questions that will be used for the evaluation of their understanding of materials covered throughout each section of the course as well as their abilities to research the literature on the topic. Assessment 3 – Key concept Quizzes Upon to the completion of modules 1-3 and modules 4-6, the students will have to mandatorily take a multiple-choice and short-answer quiz to ensure they understand the fundamental concepts that have been covered in the preceding modules and can apply such knowledge to interpret and solve problem-based questions. Assessment 4 – Multimedia presentation (group assignment) In this assignment, the students will be able to connect ideas that have been learned in the modules to create a presentation expanding on a topic provided by the instructor. Such a topic will be related to maternal-fetal interaction and pregnancy complications. They will present their findings in a multimedia presentation and are expected to include research information obtained from relevant scientific papers.
