Task:

You will be required to select a health care organization of your choice (could be the organization where you work or another organization) and locate its strategic plan. You will be required to conduct research on the plan by reviewing the selected organization’s available documentation (for example, the strategic plan itself, progress reports, balance scorecard reports, annual reports, presentations to board of directors, other communication materials) to gain a full understanding of the basis for the plan and the process used to develop it. This research can be supplemented by interviewing members of the executive leadership team and/or board of directors to gain their insights into the plan and its foundation. The instructor may assist you in arranging these meetings. You will be required to critique the plan’s clarity, achievability, effectiveness, and alignment with current socio-political context and, offer suggestions for improvement of the strategic plan. You will be asked to discuss your conclusions with your classmates as we compare and contracts the merits of the various plans that have been reviewed by colleagues. Your analysis will draw on concepts covered in prior sessions of this course as well as questions for reflection provided by the instructor. 

1. Provide an overview of the approach used by the health care organization to develop the strategic plan and rationale for its development

2. Provide an overview of the strategic plan (schematic)

3. Critique the plan by describing its strengths and weaknesses in terms of clarity for the intended stakeholders, achievability, effectiveness (for plans already in progress of being implemented) and alignment with current socio-political context

4. Conclude with suggestions for improving the plan and its likelihood of producing the health care organization’s desired outcomes
