Discus the benefits and disadvantages of residential concentration in Cabramatta
Cabramatta is a shrub located in Australia on the south west of wales. It was traditionally known as drug center, the exporter of drugs such as heroin. Drastic changes have been experienced in Cabramatta, these changes include the cultural exchange due to the existence of different communities in the shrub. These cultural diversity is an evidence from the stores to the residential places. The diversity and the cultural changes experienced in Cabramatta are as a result of federal government decision in 1970’s that allowed large number of refugees from Vietnam (De Botton, 2017). The immigrants introduced different architectural and ornamentation skill among other practices
According to the census conducted in 2011 Cabramatta had a population of 21,783. They included resident born in Vietnam which was thirty one per cent of the population and twenty eight percent of residents born in Australia (Mahtani, 2014). Due to people from different origins Cabramatta has a variety of languages. According to the statistics census 2011 there is twenty eight percent of residents who speak Vietnamese, ten percent of population speak English, nineteen percent Cantonese, 7.5 percent Khmer, seven percent 6.3 percent Latin and twelve percent Thai. This has impacted on the businesses, having to feature different languages so as to attract customers from different ethnicity. Different businesses bare titles in more than one language, that is; English, Vietnamese and Chinese. With different languages people have been able to create healthy relation with others as they learn from one them. More than fifty percent of shop front sign in the streetscape of Cabramatta are written in Chinese, Vietnamise and English. This implies that there is a large population of Cabramatta residents especially those of Asian descent who are able to read and speak the languages. The businesses are accessible to all the residents speaking different languages.
Cultural exchange is evident in Cabramatta, there are different varieties of ornaments and curving in Cabramatta which suggest different origins and different groups of people. Cabramatta residents have been borrowed different things from immigrants communities and integrate them into their society (Turner, Halse, and Sriprakash, 2014). Cultural exchange is evident in the streets of Cabramatta. There are statues which have been made using high techniques. It is attractive and beautifies the shrub. This architecture and ornamentation are evident to Asian influence to the community.Cultural integration has helped in boasting of different types of businesses, with diverse cultural practices available enterprises have been able to thrive (Dunn, 1993). Stores dealing with music, jewel, fabric, food, and clothing have been able to succeed. There is astore which sells Chinese clothing, made to suit Chinese culture. This has helped create employment opportunities to theCabramatta residents hence improving their general living standard.
Technology is the collection of methods, skills and process used in the provision of services and production of goods. Cabramatta has been developing in technology and has tried to integrate technology in its daily operations. In1990’s Cabramatta had not invested heavily in technology. The immigrants from other Asian countries introduced some technical skills which have boosted economic growth in Cabramatta. The availability of electricity has facilitated development in technology. Cabramattahas welcomed technology by making technology services available to its residents. Internet access in many places such as Restaurants andlibrarieshas enhanced technology. The Cabramatta community has high use of computer technology, and many residents in Cabramatta possess smartphones. Most businesses inCabramatta use modern technology to aid in their operations;this enables in the improvement of the quality of goods produced and services delivered; hence impacting positively on the lives of its residents. Libraries in Cabramatta have helped to contain the technology outbreak by installing computers and Wi-Fi hotspots available to the community for its use. These resources have helped in boosting businesses in Cabramatta.
In 19th and 20th centuries Cabramatta was covered by green plantations which were of low economic value (Peach, 2002). The land which was initially covered by green plantation has now been developed into higher economic value resource. Buildings have been erected on the land which have higher value than the plantations previously planted on the land. This has facilitated the growth in infrastructure, that is; good roads have been developed. The good infrastructure has aided in creation of job opportunities to Cabramatta community. There is a good flow of goods and services within the community without unnecessary shortages. The availability of these buildings has attracted different investors in Cabramatta, making their goods and services readily available to the community. This has led to creation of wealth and improvement of living standards of the residents. Cabramatta in now a conducive place where families can settle and have a comfortable life without major challenges being experienced.
Cabramatta was known to have Serbian and Italian butchers in the olden days, this is no more in Cabramatta (Dunn, 2003). There has been great change in the nature of businesses found in Cabramatta streets. Along John streets there are different restaurants and cafes which sell food and drinks from different cultures ranging from Chinese to Vietnamese cultures. There are grocery shops selling different types of fruit, for exampleJackfruit is available which is only found in Asian stores. These fruits showcased by different shops are consumed by Cabramatta residents. Many fabric shops have emerged inCabramatta changing the lifestyle of the community in terms of the dressing. Pharmacies and other healthcare facilities have also emerged to give these services to the community. Banks and money lending institutions have emerged to give credits toCabramatta residents.
Immigration of people from different cultures intoCabramatta has facilitated into the drastic changes experienced in Cabramatta; this has influenced the living standards and the lifestyle of the residents. The traditional practices are fading with time, as the residents adapt to the methods introduced by the immigrant communities. Cabramatta has been able to develop its infrastructure and technology as a result of the presence of different cultures and traditions.
