They want the product to make a big splash onto the market ready for the Christmas period, and have hired you to design and develop a media plan. The product is a new and exciting children’s toy. It is relatively expensive as it contains a number of technological elements, but it is also a good quality product.

You have been given a detailed brief stating the business case for this new product. The product and its features have been described in detail.

The target audience has been identified as middle class children and the parents of middle class children aged between 6 and 15. Relatively high levels of disposable income—desire to be early adopters.

The company is interested in TV, radio or print advertising and generation of online sales. The intention is to have the advertising campaign underway in late October or at least the beginning of November, to generate immediate and ongoing sales—beyond the Christmas period.

They have provided material about their wider business strategy and about what their competition are doing.

They have provided a budget.

Costs might be subject to revision once concepts have been developed, or if the brief changes substantially.

Product benefits relate to image, learning, durability, quality, ease of use and fun.
