Notice of Meeting – Discussion of Future Human Resource Needs

Dear Team,

A departmental meeting will be held at the University Board Room (Level 3, Room 354) on 7 September 2015 from 10:00am to 11:00am. Further details are given below.

The University has recently released the ‘2015 – 2016 Human Resources Strategic Operational Plan’ which set the objective in relation to growing the University’s research capacity and capability aiming to increase the University’s position in QS World University Rankings. Further discussions with the Director of Human Resources Division have highlighted that the University will require to recruit more staff to achieve this objective.

A number of issues will be discussed at this meeting, including:

  • the most urgent position to be recruited
  • selection criteria for the position
  • salary
  • other terms and conditions

Your Trainer/Assessor will form a group of three-four students as the members of the Human Resources Division. Your Trainer/Assessor will be role-playing the Director of Organisational and People Capability.

The meeting is 30 minutes in total. You are not allowed to record the meeting in an audio or audio-visual format unless stated elsewise by your Trainer/Assessor.

Based on the information you collected during the meeting, you must write a word processed Position Description to be advertised and submit to your Trainer/Assessor. You must ensure that the Position Description and advertising of the position comply with the University’s Recruitment and Selection Policy and legal requirements.

Note that you must write the Position Description individually, not as a group.

Task 2 – Interview and Panel Decision

Your Trainer/Assessor will form the Selection Panel by using the same group of students in Task 1.

Your Trainer/Assessor will role-play the shortlisted candidate.

You must perform the following:

  • prepare interview questions (minimum five, individual work)
  • invite the shortlisted candidate for the interview (individual work)
  • prepare for the interview (group work, as the Selection Panel), deciding which questions to be asked, when and by whom (determine minimum of five questions to be asked addressing the Selection Criteria)
  • interview the shortlisted candidate (group work, as the Selection Panel)
  • actively participate in the interview and direct questions to the shortlisted candidate
  • record the shortlisted candidate’s responses (individual work)
  • document the selection outcome (group work, as the Selection Panel).
