Overview of Virtualmaju
The network solution is prepared for the development of the wide area network and the different communication model is used for enabling communication between the different departments of the organization. The Virtualmaju is a township and it is selected as the best option for the business companies to set up their business. A design of the network topology is created for interconnecting the buildings and meet the current needs of the business organization for performing different business operations. The metropolitan area network is required to be planned for assisting the user to enable communication between the different areas of the network. Different types of communication such as wired and wireless media should be used for the development of the network solution and different types of network device should be used for the development of the MAN.
Overview of MAN
The metropolitan area network is developed for interconnecting the users between different geographical locations and interconnecting the local area network. The local area network are combined to form a single large network and creating a point to point connection between the network devices. The metropolitan area network is designed for interconnecting the different parts of the city and securing the transmission of data packets. The types of network cables that should be used for interconnecting the network devices should be identified for the development of the network solution. The different data transmission modes should be classified for the identification of the network strategies and providing different facilities for enabling transmission of data between the different nodes connected in the network. The organization needs a changes and the basic needs of the organization should be fulfilled for the development of the network solution.

The network diagram is created by segmenting the different areas and multiple network cables are used for interconnecting the devices. The network infrastructure is created for supporting the network and creating a reliable channel for communicating with the different areas of the network. There are different categories such as end devices, intermediary devices and the network media that are used for the development of the network. The laptop, PC, tablet, routers and the access point should be connected with each other such that different communication device should be used responding to the different services to the network. The host devices should be able to communicate with the source and the destination address. The network access device should be configured according to the needs of the organization and appropriate medium should be used for interconnecting the devices. Different types of network cables such as copper, Fibre optics and wireless medium should be used for the transmission of the signals.
Type of media communication selected with justification
The distance of the network device and the area that should be covered is analysed for creation of the network cabling plan. The similar type of network device should be connected with the copper straight through cables and the different network devices such as the connection between the switch and the router should be done using copper cross over cable. Cat 6 cables are used for the transmission of the data packets and for the long distance communication fibre optics cables are used. Since it can transmit the data packets at the speed of the light and supports higher bandwidth without any loss in the transmission of the signals.
Type of media communication selected for network redundancy
The success of the network depends on the redundancy of the links of the network and it should be used for handling the emergency condition such as failure of the link and handling more number of request at a time. The network is needed to be configured with frame relay such that the network traffic can be redirected using different link to reach the destination address in the network. The security of the network should be considered and it should be developed for securing the communication between the devices. The cost of the network device and the cables such as the long haul links, metropolitan trunk and the speed of the local area network should be constant such that there are no error in the data transmission. UTP shielded twisted pair cables should be used for transmission of the data packets within the distance of 100 meters and it is best suited for the Ethernet connectivity and multiple links can be created such that if a link fails the nodes can use the redundant link to reach the destination address.
The following three network device are selected for performing different operation in the network such as:
- Cisco 2811 Series router
- Cisco 2960 Series Switch, and
- Linksys Wireless Access Points
Justification of selection
The Cisco 2811 series router is selected since it provides different functionality and advanced service in the network. The router have enhanced module slot and integrated fast Ethernet ports that can be used for local area connection. It has on board encryption and provides a support for 1500 VPN tunnel that can be used for supporting the wide area network topology. It has also the feature of configuration with Intrusion prevention system for protecting the network from the intruders and keep the resources of the network safe. Cisco 2960 series switch is used for increasing the productivity because it support transmission of the voice packets in the network and management of the quality of service. The Linksys router is used as a wireless access point for connecting the wireless device of the office users and enabling communication of data packets in the network. The router is used for enabling the data traffic to reach different sources in the network using different routes. The router is configured with static routes and DHCP pool for automatically assigning the IP address to the nodes connected in the network.
