Nutrition is vital for human growth and development.It ensures that the body remains strong and increases one’s level of immunity (Nordvist, 2017).However, a majority of young people in Australia eat food with very low nutritional value such as junk foods.As a result, there have been very many cases of lifestyle diseases such as diabetes and obesity.
This has led to a majority of these students missing classes due to ill health.
Creatine- a dietary compound, can lead to various negative effects in the body which many students may not be aware of (MedlinePlus, 2017).
These include ;
Muscle cramping
Eye disturbance
In a bid to ensure that all students receive information about the workshop, I decided to use different ways to best reach the students.
Methods of Communication
To pass the information I chose five methods to reach a wide audience both locally and globally.
These include;
Internal Newsletter
Internal Email
External Media release
External Pamphlet
Memorandum
The internal newsletter proved to be a very effective method of passing the information on the nutrition workshop.This is because the newsletter is engaging and accessible to everyone in the university. Moreover, it is short and precise.Additionally, the internal newsletter helped create a sense of family among the members of Swinburne University and it made them feel part and parcel of the activity.The newsletter is also very precise as to the time the workshop will take place as well as the location where it will be held.
The internal email was another very effective method of passing information.This is because every student in the university received an email informing them of the workshop. This method is effective both for local communication as well as global communication. The information sent using the internal email was also precise and contained all the date and time as well as the venue information.The external media release was one method that I chose because it can reach a large number of people in different geographic and demographic categories at the same time.
This method is good for global communication because currently, very many people across the world are able to access the media.Additionally, this was a method aimed at inviting other people who are not part of Swinburne University from across the globe.The external pamphlet is another method that I used to reach students and faculty members in the university as well as other people who are not part of the Swinburne fraternity.By issuing pamphlets outside the university I was able to clarify information to anyone who wanted to know more abut the workshop.
Physical issuing of the pamphlets was however not a method to reach a global audience.
To reach people globally, I scanned the pamphlets and used social media and other online platforms to reach a wider audience.The memorandum is the final method I used to pass on information about the nutrition workshop.This method was used to reach the manager of the conference hall where the workshop will be held.The memorandum precisely states the date and time of the workshop to ensure that all preparations are made at good time.
Workshop on Nutrition
After passing the information in all the five ways, I received some feedback from students requesting to know more about the workshop.This was from both local and international students who promised to attend the workshop.Due to the mention of some of the risks brought about by poor feeding habits, some of the students have already started eating healthy.Others are eagerly waiting for the workshop to hear what the professionals will teach them about proper feeding habits.
This can be attributed to the fact that the message was ubiquitous to emphasize the intended message.Most of the students are expected to attend the workshop.This is mainly because the information given was precise in terms of the date, time and venue of the workshop.The message is also relevant to the current situation of many students and they can therefore relate to it.The method that reached the highest global audience is the use of the media release.
However, the method that reached the most students at Swinburne university was the use of the internal email.The use of pamphlets also reached a large number of people who are not part of Swinburne University.
The manager to the conference hall also received the memo and is currently working on the venue.It is therefore evident that information should be simple, clear and concise and have a specific targeted audience.All the important details should also be displayed to avoid confusion. These include; date, time, and venue.The message must also be credible. This can be shown by consistency in all the message sent out.It should also highlight issues that are important to the society to make it memorable and to bring about change in the society.
Conclusion
Due the fact that many people received the information, it is expected that they will benefit from the nutrition workshop.Proper nutrition will consequently lead to improved productivity among the students due to reduced absenteeism and save resources previously used in treatment procedures.All these objectives will be achieved due to proper communication of information and aiming not only to reach people in the country but also have a global impact.
