Discuss about the ECON2540 Economics of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Why This Subject is Entrepreneurial

In the United Kingdom, there are many businesses and organizations that are running websites in order to either market their products or offer other services that need large number of people to access them (Bano & Taylor, 2015). What has caught my attention is the manner in which many websites are designed. This is because many of their designs do not offer good interacting features for people with disability and these are people are many and also potential customers. People living with disability in one way or another either by sight, hands or hearing problem in this case need to be considered during the design of the websites so that they too can use the systems that have been designed with less difficulty. This has been a problem to many.

Looking at the user’s needs, the businesses or organizations that have designed this websites should identify the problems that the people living with challenges are facing when interacting with their sites (Balcerzak & Pietrzak, 2016). This can be achieved by evaluating how these people interact with the websites. For instance, carrying out research on the needs of these customers for example 2.2 million people in UK have difficulties accessing this websites, 4 million have dyslexia, 3 people out of ten is above 50 years, there are others who speak English as a second language, there is a number of them that lack basic language skills etc.

Organizations and business enterprises should immediately with the shortest time possible implement the features that will enable people that have any type of abnormality be able to interact with their website efficiently. This is because implementation of new features such as voice feedback for the blind and increased fonts for people with sight problems will see these organizations witness increased visitors each month. Online sale for businesses will increase as well. More business growth will be seen because of increased market from these people.

Discuss why this subject of your case study is entrepreneurial and how this entrepreneurship is changing in the new Knowledge Based Economy (KBE).

The case study above is entrepreneurial because first, it is a descriptive study. In this case data collected consists of processes and events on which these events take place (qualitative data). A lot of emphasis has been made on experience of the people interacting with the websites and also a lot of details have been provided concerning the condition of the users and solutions that can be applied to solve the problems encountered by users (Jessop, 2017). Secondly, it is narrowly focused. This is because the study has offered only a group of people who are encountering some problems when interacting with the websites. In addition to that, the study has focused on some people that have a certain problem i.e. the physically challenged. Thirdly, the case study combines the aspects of subjective data and objective data. This is because all this data is basically accepted for analyzing and also as a foundation for inferences within the study. There is also the description of behaviour and its context within the case study. In addition, the subject aspects are also described. For instance, feelings and impressions etc. this case study is offering a method by which the problems encountered by the user can be solved. For instance implementation of a voice feedback for the sight impaired among others (Bao & Peng, 2016). This case study has gone ahead to describe the kind of transformation or advantages that will be seen afterwards when the problem is solved.

How Entrepreneurship is Changing in the New Knowledge-Based Economy

How this entrepreneurship is changing in the new Knowledge Based Economy (KBE).

The general website case study is bringing change to the digital knowledge economy in various ways. First, the volume of sales can became bigger overnight because of increased interactivity with more users within a day (Al-Maadeed & Weerakkody, 2016). In addition to that, increased customers will lead to increased opportunities for investments. Secondly, funding for the implementation of the new website features will require a lot of funding. With increase in the number of services will result to reduced barriers to entry. Thirdly, innovations that are networked will be much easier through globalization. There will also be innovation and entrepreneurship and thus change from managed to an entrepreneurial economy.

Discuss the concepts or theories from the course that this case study illustrates.

The concept of this case study is based on The New On-Line Knowledge-Based Economy (KBE). This concept is under the economics of information & Entrepreneurship in KBE. This new economy is mainly based on the use of Internet in businesses. There are various features of Knowledge based economy. Some of them include the following (Balcerzak & Pietrzak, 2017). First we have knowledge intensive. Under knowledge intensive, we have knowledge itself which refers to intellectual property, technology that is applied to doing things, human and social capital, relationships in businesses etc. we have old knowledge which consists of physical capital such as land, buildings and other tangible resources. We also have knowledge base itself which is the most productive factor of all. Increase in knowledge will result into increased complexity and uncertainty which as a result triggers change in organizational economy in the form of organizational networks.

Secondly, we have convergence which refers to the breakdown of boundaries that were formally separate. KBE emerges as a result of convergent of computers and telecommunication and these results to things like e-commerce, e-banking and share trading, e-shopping etc (McCamley & Gilmore, 2017). the revolution in internet is ranked as one of the major transformers of economic and social life. We also have innovation in service sector. Here we have the rise of industries that provide services as the main source of innovation in the economy. It is based on new information and communication platforms thus adopting new products and services to improve business processes (Guerrero, Urbano, Cunningham & Organ, 2014).

Finally, we have the changing nature of globalization and labour markets. You find that a great number of jobs face likely hood of being replaced by computers in the future. Talents enabled by online technology are also becoming global. The combination of external shocks, technical changes and globalization will lead to relative growth in service sector employment, casual work and part time growth; demand for manual skills will decline and finally lead to growth in demand for people with skills and KBE.
