Discuss about the Effects Of Approach To Learning And Self-Perceived.
Introduction
The essay examines the challenges that are faced by the first year students within the University for the Selection of their learning approaches. The essay argues on the general facts of learning approach that is surface learning and the deep learning approach within the university. The essay discusses the various facts and the suitable approach that might be developed by the students to perform their education system in the most effective way management .
Main Context
Learning approach in the higher education system is used for the effectiveness of the students. The learning approach that is generally provided by the higher education system is deep learning approach and the surface learning approach. The learning approach is utilized for effectiveness within the higher education system that help students to maintain their education system in University. According to the view of Dolmans et al., (2016), the surface learning approach is the achievement on the course with the minimum effort that is provided by the students in the education system. According to Liu et al., (2015), the surface learning approach is the fulfillment of the minimum requirement of syllabus where the students just memorize the facts that are required for them to pass the examination and became graduate. Moreover, it can be argued from the view of Danker, (2015), that deep learning approach is one of the best things that is essential for the students to have deeper knowledge on the particular subject. In deep learning approach, the students will be required not only to memorize the entire thing but also to deeply understand the meaning of each of the parts. As per Donnison, & Penn-Edwards, (2012), deep learning approach help the students to gather appropriate knowledge and skill regarding the concept which helps them in their future development. The selection of suitable learning approach within the university allows the students to develop their career in future. This is highly required within the education system to maintain the learning activity of the students management .
Selection of suitable and effective learning approach by the students is vital for their development. From the view of Donnison, & Penn-Edwards, (2012), it can be said that it became quite tough for the students of the first year to select the appropriate learning approach. In most of the cases, it can be depicted that the students prefer to use the surface learning approach due to the fact that it is time-saving and also it provides them the appropriate knowledge regarding the course. It can be argued from the view of Dolmans et al., (2016) that the students need to prepare a strong base in their first year which in future will help them to develop their skill and their knowledge in the market. According to the view of Danker, (2015), it is essential for the students within the university to adopt deep learning approach to strengthen their base in that particular subject. Deep learning approach is the most effective way of the education system for the students of the first year as this help them to understand deeply the meaning of the course. It helps to retain the activity in mind for the longest time which is not provided in the surface learning approach. The fact is clear that surface learning approach helps the student to memorize the facts and the information for a short period of time which help them to score marks in the university. Whereas, the deep learning approach stay for the long time in the mind of students which help them in the career development.
Surface learning approach is the quite suitable for the first year students due to time and vast syllabus. In the 21st century the education system has developed in a vast way and also the time for grabbing entire thing is less. According to the view of Dolmans et al., (2016), in this time where the change is rapid and time is fewer students need to develop the effective way for their learning. In this the surface learning approaches allow them to cope up with time and also provide them suitable support for completing the syllabus within the time limit. From the view of Donnison, & Penn-Edwards, (2012), it is also seen that universities provide the vast syllabus for the students and they do not have enough time to learn everything with the deeper concept. The process of surface learning approach is effective for the students from their point of view. It can be argued from the view of Liu et al., (2015), that education is the thing where knowledge and concept are vital for the people. It is also being depicted that ion the education system surface learning or the little learning will create a problem for the students in future. From the point of view of Pegrum et al., (2015) deep learning approach allows the students with sufficient knowledge which they can apply in every part of their life. This approach may be little time consuming but this in future help the students to develop their skill and their knowledge in a various field. It is essential for the students to think about their future and select the best learning approach for them.
It is quite challenging for the students in the first year as to which learning approach they need to develop. It can be seen from the view of Donnison, & Penn-Edwards, (2012) that universities encourage their students to develop the deep learning approach which is required by the students to develop their career in future. It can be argued from the point of Liu et al., (2015) that the students did not get enough time during their first year to cope up with all the course which eventually make them develop the process of surface learning approach. It became challenging for the students as surface learning approach will help them in their particular year and the deep learning approach will help them throughout their life. Though the deep learning approach is essential; for the students but due to time and another factor it can be seen that most of the first year students adopt surface learning approach within their education system. According to Danker, (2015), the challenge for the development of effective learning approach within the university need to be taken in the easiest way so that students did not face any kind of pressure regarding their education system. It is clear from the point of Pegrum et al., (2015) that education system needs to be student-friendly where they have the ability to gather knowledge without facing any kind of issue or trauma. Either it may be the surface learning or the deep learning approach students need to develop a suitable approach for the education in the university.
Conclusion
The paper concludes the facts that the selection of learning approach directly depends on the students. The selection depends on the capacity of the individual students for their learning approach. It is clear from the various facts provided within the paper that both the learning approaches are effective for the students and both provide some of the knowledge to the students in their university life. In most of the cases, it can be seen that students generally follow the surface learning approach as this is time-saving and also helpful for the students in the first year.
