According to Hargie (2016), interpersonal communication is the process through which people can exchange the feelings, information and meaning through verbal and non-verbal messages. Interpersonal communication refers the communication in which people can interact directly in small groups in one-to-one condition. Interpersonal relationships are shown in impersonal, professional, family, workplace and friendship. Interpersonal communication is the process through which people can exchange the feeling and information both verbally and non-verbally. Interpersonal relationship accomplishes the relational and personal objectives. Interpersonal communication contributes the idea of adapting and adjusting the verbal communication and the non-verbal communication and interpersonal communication influences the processes of the message in production. According to Berger (2014), interpersonal communication within the workplace involves in varying relation and interaction between the employees, superiors and subordinates. The author further stated that interpersonal communication process is included to message, sender, channel and receiver. Within the workplace, interpersonal communication is very important as the employees have to work with multiethnic groups.

Effective interpersonal communication has emerged from the community mediation that focuses on the quality and nature of the relationship to resolve the issues of working in the community. Symbolic interaction theory states the socio-cultural perspective which relies on the creation of shared meaning by interacting with others. According to Rock (2016), symbolic interaction focuses on the ways through which people create the structure and meaning through only interaction. Three major concepts of the symbolic interaction are the society, self and mind. Society creates the mining which is involved in a gesture of the individual. Self-stands the idea coming from the perception and mind dictates the ability to use significant symbols.

Triandis’ theory of interpersonal communication and behaviour suggests four factors of interpersonal communication and these are attitudes, contextual factors, habits and personal capabilities. In interpersonal communication, behaviour plays the important role which comes from the social factors and emotions (Ross et al., 2017). Interpersonal communication is associated with the antecedents of behaviour and the habits of the people mediate the behaviour. Interpersonal communication is influenced by the moral beliefs and this can impact through emotional drives and limitations.

In the workplace, the employees face the psychological barrier which includes the embarrassment or shyness. Introvert people face the issue to talk to other people within the workplace as they are shy in nature. In addition, a cultural barrier within the organisation is related to the multiethnic background people and language (Braithwaite & Schrodt, 2014). In some of the ethnic backgrounds; physical gesture reflects extravagant and even touch is not acceptable. In Orthodox society; casual hugging is not acceptable (Berger, 2014). Sometimes; the employees within the organisation face the issue of a language barrier when multiethnic background people use different language. Finally, environmental barriers of communication within the organisation are lack of privacy and noise within the workplace. Sometimes, a ringing phone and noise distracts effective communication.

As stated by Robinson et al., (2014), a better understanding of the interpersonal communication helps to extend the ability to work with other people and finding the solution. Understanding interpersonal communication skill identifies the real needs of the staffs and clients. A better understanding of the interpersonal communication skill handles the complaints and conflicts to manage the stress. Interpersonal communication is necessary when the employees work in multicultural organisations with different types of people. As opined by Neuliep (2017), better interpersonal communication makes the workplace adaptable and flexible in nature to communicate in a better way.

In the next five years, I want to see myself as a departmental manager in an MNC. I have always been thinking to be a manager in a large multinational company. Actually, I want to start my own business in the future, however, I want to gather the experience of doing business and I want to earn money to start my own business.

First of all, written business communication would help me to write a proper CV, Cover Letter and E-mail for the employment purpose. Written business communication provides the knowledge of academic writing which improves the grammatical knowledge and flare of writing. Communication within the workplace improves through building a relationship through conveying the message. Written Business Communication will help me to clear the message and share the written communication to the subordinates in an MNC. I will manage to write better notice and newsletter within the organisation. I will be able to write the contracts easily and I will be able to answer the queries of stakeholders easily through a written message.

In an MNC, it is very important to be aware of the diversity of the people. Intercultural communication knowledge will help me to communicate with the subordinates and colleagues who belong from the different ethnic background. Intercultural communication offers to deal with a different culture which is becoming important for the employees. MNCs recruit people from different ethnic backgrounds and the knowledge of communicating inter-culture people saves the situation.
