Gender equality is something which is achieved on the occasion of equal distribution of rights to both the genders. It includes the financial participation and also taking decisions when the aims and also the needs of men and women are equally favoured as well as valued. The inequality or the disparity of genders occurs when unequal or unfair treatment is meted out to them.
For centuries the concept of the inequality of genders has been a problem which has been persisting in the society. This is usually a wrong interpretation of the position as well as the importance of both the genders in life. The inequality of the genders has effects on the entire population. There are problems in the educational facets as well.
It needs to be understood and all the segments of the society including both men and women need to be educated that neither males nor females have control over whatever superiority each of the genders have in specific aspects. Physical superiority is existent in males by birth in comparison to females. Therefore it is obvious that males will emerge victorious in sports or other physically challenging activities in comparison to women. Judgements therefore should not be made about women based on attributes which they have no control over. Due to this existent superiority therefore the discrimination between both the genders cannot be justified in any way. Rather than lamenting on things which individuals of both genders cannot do, it is desirable that a peaceful coexistence is established between both (Razavi).
Due to the persisting nature of the discrimination between the genders, the activities or the facets of work in which women are capable and efficient are often neglected. It is not realised that in the long run this harms the overall development of the society as a whole and human kind moves in the backward direction (Walby, Armstrong and Strid)
Despite the fact that female education corresponds to an increased overall education in the society for their children, health and also the proper schooling, there are several impediments faced in female education. Even in the present age of advancement women face problems in education, in the job scenario and even while contesting for significant managerial positions for organisations. The backwardness in the educational facilities as well as in job scenarios is also bound to contribute to lower amount of economic growth (Karamessini and Rubery).
Several instances of violence against women occur due to the fact that there are still instances of gender inequality. Therefore achieving gender equality is a key aim in order to ensure the reduction in the violence against women in all walks of life.
There are certain instances of unconscious bias towards a particular gender due to the implicit assumptions and unspoken attitudes, beliefs as well as expectations which everyone has about the others. It is possible to overcome the stereotypes only if every individual is willing to achieve immediate judgements, and can put in place the practice as well as the procedures to mitigate the potential effects. The female employment should be encouraged and banked upon instead of being discouraged (Waylen).
Instead of being judgemental towards women better opportunities need to be provided to help them manage all the aspects of their life successfully. There has been a significant change in the traditional family dynamics and it is desired that positive advancement might be made in the direction of gender equality (Karpowitz et al.).
Women are also deserving of equality of social and human rights and it is to be understood that the gender equality involves the justness in social norms as well as human rights. Discriminatory rights and laws inhibiting the financial capability of women need to be eradicated as much as possible. There should be stronger support for the women by upliftment of the problems which they face and this initiative should be taken globally (Waylen).
The gender equality is an urgent and truly debatable topic. This is because inequality in different fields is an urgent problem. The discrimination against women based on gender needs to stop at any cost. The complex facts pertaining to the gender inequality cannot be neglected. Equality is something which can be brought about by eradicating discrimination and inequality completely.
