From the given extract, it has been understood that the speaker is the lover – Romeo of Juliet who is in passionate love with Juliet. The extract is filled with varied imageries, which have been solely used to describe the beauty of Juliet through the eyes of Romeo. Most of the imageries used in the extract are understandably visual and each of them has been used to emphasize the beauty of Juliet, which is understandably one of the reasons for Romeo’s love for her. For example, Juliet’s fair and gorgeous beauty has been emphasized by comparing her with the bright sun. On the other hand, Juliet’s maid’s pale beauty has been described with the pale moon. The character of Romeo thus seems to be romantic, he is seemingly a person for whom physical beauty is the ultimate determinant of love, and everything in the world should be judged by beauty (Shakespeare 2016).
In this context, it is required to mention that the ideas of beauty and romantic love have been evident throughout the extract. It is because, here in the extract, the love of Romeo is apparently to be the fruit of his impression regarding the beauty of Juliet. It is understandable that Romeo desires Juliet passionately though his love for her is mainly platonic. Throughout the extract, the platonic love of Romeo is visible as per the reason that Romeo only desires to see the beauty of Juliet and stay overwhelmed and he thinks he can converse with his love through eye contact (Dixon 2014). Therefore, it should be also mentioned that along with depicting the beauty of Juliet through visual imageries, the extract has presented the platonic love of Romeo.
