You will complete an industry analysis report for your chosen career path.

Career path in tourism industry

Tourism industry is my major area of interest as a student. This is because of the increasing demands for accommodation needs by various individuals who move from one country to another for various purposes (Assaf & Magnini, 2012).My dream is to become an accounting manager in a hotel within one to two years after my graduation. As a manager, I will be responsible for the accounting and financial management of the hotel. The key role will be to manage the accounting department, procurement function as well as the hotel’s electronic data processing .The main objective of this report is to outline my career path in Tourism industry and discuss the trends on jobs in the industry. The report is also going to outline the probability of securing a job in the hospitality industry once an individual is done with his or her study. Currently I’m pursuing management and accounting in Algonquin College. The combination is very marketable because as a professional I can work in any industry hence hospitality industry is my choice because of been widespread in Canada. The report shall further outline the PESTEL analysis of the tourism industry in Canada so as to ascertain some of the factors that might have some impacts on the tourism sector.

Career development in tourism sector comes from experience and service training (Law,Leung,Lo, Leung & Fong, 2015). As a result, I always work voluntarily in the hotel of my choice during my long vacations out of college. I will look forward to be a volunteer in tourist organization that perhaps, guide the tourists who come to visit Canada in the summer time. As a result of interaction with people from different backgrounds, I will tremendously improve my social and communication skills.

This is very crucial because it enables me to gain practical experience which shall be very vital in my future career in the tourism industry as an accountant. I shall be ready to work in any department in the hotel because it is usually very challenging for an individual to enter into a senior position after graduating. As a result, I usually request to learn how various departments in a hotel function so as to be flexible once I enter the hotel industry. Most of the highly ranked individuals in the hospitality industry started from the bottom line to high positions hence I aspire to develop my career through the progression from a tour operator, travel and airline agent to be a full manager in the hotel department. I have too much passion for travelling, accounting and management.  This has inspired me to focus my career on tourism industry which shall enhance my job satisfaction and fulfilment. From my own perception, most of the skills that have value in the business sector are relevant in tourism industry more so if the skills are applied effectively.

During my period of internship, I will as an attaché in the accounts department in one of the hotels in my country. As an accounting manager, I will be in charge of verifying assets as well as expenditures for all activities. Further, I will seek to maximize income from restaurants, tour operations, and other business ventures in the company. Consequently, the risk of losing funds will act as a motivating factor when creating budgets as well as determining the viability of business activities.

Career experience in tourism industry

Tourism industry is one of the major contributors to the economic growth of my country. Studying management and accounting enables me to learn more about preparation, presentation and interpretation of financial records, which empowers investors, management, employees, lenders, government and other stakeholders to make practical decisions and plan an effective budget (Lamminmaki, 2012).It also equips me with skills on how to read and interpret information on accounting in daily and annual businesses’ reports as well as financial reporting within the tourism sector. It also assists me to become familiar with practice and principles of presenting information to the top management.

My aim is to become an accountant manager at Sheraton on the fall hotel located near Niagara Falls within two years after I graduate. This place is one of the leading tourists’ attraction sites in Canada and it has a high visitor turnover (Becken & Hughey, 2013). Therefore, the establishment is always booked and accountants are usually occupied with handling the finances of the business. In this way, the hotel has a high demand for competent and highly motivated accountants.

Tourism industry is one of the well-paying sector in Canada. I hope to be compensated efficiently so as to be motivated to work. Tourism industry experiences less strikes among the employees due to the effective compensation for the employees. This is an encouragement for the students who have career aspirations in this field hence the need to work hard and focus towards achieving their dream.

The political stability in Canada is one of the major factors that creates a conducive environment for tourism. The peace that exist in the nation encourages many visitors to the country which in turn results to increased employment opportunity in the tourism industry.

The Canadian economy is stable enough due to the wide tourism industries which is a direct implication of better pay when one secures a job opportunity in the hotel.

Many people like visiting Canada for various activities hence they spend in Canadian hotels. This increases the job opportunity in the hotels which implies high chances of employment.

Most of the hotels in Canada are booked online hence the visitors have the opportunity to make appropriate bookings which signifies increased income for hotels hence high chances for securing employment in the tourism sector.

The hotels should maintain high levels of hygiene to enhance the health safety for the visitors. This is important because visitors would be many hence high chances for employment.

The hotels have to comply with various labor laws such as minimum wage requirements enhancing better pay for individuals in the hospitality sector.

According to Deschamps (2015) the average annual salary for this position is $58,380.This package will be sufficient to satisfy me needs and qualify me to start a successful life.  My principal role will be to ensure that the company avoids losses of income from errors in business operations. As an accounting manager, I will be in charge of verifying assets as well as expenditures for all activities.

I will seek to maximize income from restaurants, tour operations, and other business ventures in the company. Consequently, the risk of losing funds will act as a motivating factor when creating budgets as well as determining the viability of business activities (O'Fallon & Rutherford, 2011). The manager also has a duty to control the procedures of investment by creating a comprehensive policy. I will be required to develop the financial policies of the hotel as well as offer guidance to the board of directors in matters related to capital. In this way, I will need well-developed communication skills so that I can pass the message effectively. Also, I will be expected to convince the directors to adopt some of the policies that will propel the business to another level. Therefore, managers are expected to have effective communication skills that can ease the process of passing information between different stakeholders.

After graduation, I will look for an internship at Sheraton on the Falls hotel. As an accountant in the accounting department of the hotel, I will be exposed to the business environment as well as the financial requirements in the industry(Ayeh, Leung,Au & Law,2012).In this position, I will be in charge of coordinating different departments that deal with money in the organization. I will remain in this position for another twelve months. During this time, I will have attained the position of a team leader that will introduce me to management activities. For instance, large commercial firms dominate the travel sector while the small operators must compete for a market share (Sørensen & Jensen, 2015). In this way, an internship will orient me to the different business models and approaches that are required to make a company successful. After twelve months in this position, I will look for a different position in the same department. This will provide a springboard to learn the different sources of accounting in the tourism industry as well as the various methods of accounting. In this way, I will have the chance to create accounting documents and find ways to improve the cash flow.

Conclusion

Tourism industry is the most successful industry in Canada hence increasing the chances of securing employment in future. Practical experience through internship program is important because it enables one to acquire vast knowledge which initiates the high chances of been employed in future in the competitive job market. Effective compensation is one of the aspects that motivates the employees to work in any industry. Students should be future oriented because this enhances focus on their career path hence doing all they can to land their desired jobs.
