Verge

Source: This word is used in “From the pioneers” Volume II, Chapter II. Author writes, “The high trees that were growing on the very verge of the wheel-tracks, excluded the sun’s rays, except when at meridian, and the slowness of the evaporation, united with the rich mould of vegetable decomposition, that covered the whole country, to the depth of several inches, occasioned but an indifferent foundation for the footing of travelers”. (65).                                

Definition: This word has two meanings. One meaning of verge is to incline or move in a certain direction. Second meaning is an edge or margin or a border or a grassy border along a road. In these lines, the author describes verge as an edge, the description is about the high trees grown at the edge of the wheel-tracks.

Meridian
