Question
In this Journal entry, you are asked to apply the simple research model set out in Module 1 to a research article. Please perform the following tasks for the identified research article (see below):
1. Apply the simple research model to the research article listed below by answering the following four questions:
i) where are we now?
ii) where are we going?
iii) how do we get there?
iv) how do we know when we have finished?
2. What challenges did you experience in undertaking this activity?
You will need to create a private journal entry using the journal tool available from the subject interact site. You may use a table to summarise your answer; but it is also important that you provide a narrative discussion using sentences and paragraphs.
Apply the simple research model to the following article:
Zhang, Y. and Oczkowski, E. (2016) Exploring the potential effects of expatriate adjustment direction. Cross Cultural & Strategic Management, 23(1), pp158-183.
Answer
Name of the article: Ying Zhang Edward Oczkowski , (2016)," Exploring the potential effects of expatriate adjustment direction ", Cross Cultural & Strategic Management, Vol. 23 Iss 1 pp. 158 - 183

|
i) Where are we now?
|
From this article is has been found that cross-cultural adjustment (CCA) is the term mainly used in the socio-cultural sense. It indicates the psychological feelings and adjustment of well-being that expatriates while working in foreign culture.
|
ii) Where are we going?
|
Through this article, we are going to uncover the empirical relationship required to develop proper theoretical framework to explain the two way flow expatriation phenomenon. Due to the absence of theoretical explanation on CCA, we are going to induce appropriate theoretical explanation in this article. It helps to find out whether the success of the expatriation procedure relies not only on the local cultural environments and their competences but also on the impact on the direction on the cultural flows that an expatriate is assigned.
|
iii) How do we get there?
|
In this article consideration is provided to find out the significance of cultural distance asymmetry (CDA). In order to develop appropriate data analysis from a two-flow expatriate sample between China and Australia, Structural equation modeling technique is going to be used.
|
iv) How do we know when we have finished?
|
If the data finding indicates the potential importance of addressing the cultural flow direction of expatriation in CCA, then we can say that our work is finished. If the data finding suggests that there is a possible existence of some important relations that can explain the expatriate CCA, then we can say that our work is finished.

2.

What challenges did you experience in undertaking this activity?
|
Due to the absence of larger sample size, the statistical test does not have the power to address proper parameter differences between the groups. It has significant impact oon our overall performance as well.

1. i) Where are we now?
From this article is has been found that cross-cultural adjustment (CCA) is the term mainly used in the socio-cultural sense. It indicates the psychological feelings and adjustment of well-being that expatriates while working in foreign culture. Culturally adjusted expatriates have to be open to the host culture. They have to adopt new norms, rules and behaviors along with the foundation given by the host culture. It has been found that there is no appropriate theoretical explanation had been provided related with the two way cultural asymmetry on CCA. Major research questions used in this article are such as:
1) To what degree, cultural asymmetry can moderate the relationship between CQ and CCA?
2) To what degree, cultural asymmetry can moderate the CCA and role position relationship?
ii) Where are we going?
Through this article, we are going to uncover the empirical relationship required to develop proper theoretical framework to explain the two way flow expatriation phenomenon. Due to the absence of theoretical explanation on CCA, we are going to induce appropriate theoretical explanation in this article. It helps to find out whether the accomplishment of the expatriation process relies not only on local cultural environments and their competences but also on the effects on the direction on the cultural flows that an expatriate is assigned. This article goes below cultural perspectives. It also prides a holistic approach to assess the cultural intelligence. In this article, we are going to find out two way flow expatriation between on “eastern” country (China) and a “Western” country (Australia). Structural equational modeling (SEM) is used for the data analysis technique. We are going to find out some relevant literatures that help investigate the broad issue of CCA and how they can influence the adjustment of expatriates.
iii) How do we get there?
There are various methodological limitations that have affected out activity as well. Even though we have tried to mitigate all the common method bias, the influence of such bias cannot be totally removed from the findings. It had affected our judgment about the article.
