HCUP uses different databases and research tools in following section we would be discussing four of them. There are many research tools and databases are available for different purposes.
- State inpatient database (SID):
This database contains the information about discharge records of community hospitals. Patients discharge documents with information regardless of payer. The SID contains approximately 97 percent of discharged data. It also includes clinical and nonclinical information of all patients including their personal insurance & includes covered individual Medicare.
- State Ambulatory Surgery and Service Databases (SASD):
The SASD contains encounter-level data about ambulatory surgeries and also various type services like radiation therapy, chemotherapy, lithotripsy, imaging, labor and delivery. It provides ambulatory surgery and outpatient services for nonhospital owned facilities. SASD is the popular tool in HCUP implementation because of its unique specifications and utilization.
HCUP net is one of the favorite tools of HCUP program because it is used for analyzing, tracking and comparing statistics on hospital and emergency care. The tool provides information form national wide databases like NID etc. It excretes information from state level databases as well. It provides information about the quality factor of organization.
- MONAHRQ:
It is the software product that enables organizations like state level database, hospital plans, charted value exchange to put their own hospital administrative data and generate data driven website.
