There are some factors are arisen which may impact the globalization in simultaneously such as economic, political, business and work milieu and technological resources. It includes the coordination of the global projects in an interconnected manner. Gemünden, (2015), refers those global projects as tasks by an organization that is created with real and including manifold teams or distinct organizations introducing a broad geographic dispersion. Global projects involve the sophisticated implications because it involves the relationship of various parties that has the nature of versatile. Furthermore, every party in the global project has the significant role along with the position of the hierarchy influence. Various journal articles will be taken to evaluate the research topic in an adequate manner.
The purpose of this research is to investigate the various challenges and opportunities of the global project management. There are various challenges in project management which raise the issues and along with that there are numerous opportunities which are able to fix the issues.
Global project management is wide and it is vital for the companies to interact with other companies by considering their laws and regulations. Thus, the scope of this project is huge; the topic of this research proposal is one of the challenging issues in today’s world but it has some opportunities as well. Literature review will describe about the global project management with taking help of various journals of different authors.
Globalization has intensified due to progress in the transportation and the communication networks across the globe. The primary catalyst of global business is access in new markets, expertise and knowledge. There are several motives behind the option to global services such as efficiency in cost, availability of a qualified skills and it is vital to focus to core competencies. The driving factors are increasing towards global services. Global project is structured with real and including manifold teams or distinct organizations introducing a broad geographic dispersion. As per Binder, (2007), there are number of companies that have established its business globally without full comprehension of the results of moving work to different nations and cultures. There are various challenges companies have to face due to diverse cultures. Furthermore, the location of diverse global teams will have an insightful impact on the implementation of the project. There are some benefits of global project management which facilitates the country to interact with each other for getting economical benefits. It has been analyzed that these kinds of benefits for those persons who carry out and opt to invest in it. The main feature of global project management is that it provides the opportunity to explore the unexplored markets. It includes exploring the world beyond a given organizational culture. The World has rich in diversity, there are so many cultures, beliefs, religions and languages and these things brings diversity to the work environment and aiding a development in collective thinking and decreasing the group thinking. Global projects management brings the motivation in the work environment and rich information exchange (Binder, 2008). Global projects help the amalgamation of highly approached the members of team with the similar project without showing requirement of moving the teams to other countries. Along with that it also eradicates the requirement to delocalize some project work packages or tasks in term to reduce the costs of the projects. It has been analyzed that there are complexity as well in the global project management.
Challenges of the global project management
There are various issues in global project management that is why it is crucial for the company and the project manager of the company to make sure that the local management is committed. Globalization is linking a new dimension to Project Management. Cultural diversity is the major challenges in the global project management which has to face by project manager in the company. There are numerous team members and stakeholders who are belonging from manifold positions. There can be issue of languages and enlightening barriers which may create uncertain prospect for all included parties. As consequences, communication gets influenced due to those barriers (Levin, 2008). Communication is considered as the major part of the global project management because it helps to interact with each other and due to lack of communication, the information can be conveyed in wrong manner. Thus, challenging in effective communication can be hindered the success of the project. There are various cases in which global project teams and their leaders are taking critical decision on the basis of second hand information.

It has been analyzed that there can be different challenges such as common application of traditional technique. Schwalbe, (2015), stated that the traditional project management are focuses towards the planning and the tracking the details of timelines, costs and specifications. Generally, face to face communication is vital to execute the project in an efficient manner but it has been found that in global project management face to face communication are limited and the decision is taken as per situation. Long distance communications are liable for miscommunication that has pessimistically influenced mission timelines and results. The major challenges in the context of global project management are distance, language, business culture, time zones and access to information. Cultural differences are confronting for the project mangers due to the cultural variety. Kerzner, (2017), discussed that communication are influenced by cultural differences between the project team and project managers. Various cultures and attitudes of team members at the work place are the cause of the issues in the business environment while managing the business partners as well as the employee in the organization (Schwalbe, 2015). The impact of cultural difference is huge on the performance of the project due to the failure for acclimatizing behaviors in attaining the goals and objectives of the team.
Nicholas and Steyn, (2017), defined that technical capacity is another challenge of the global project management that includes skills, knowledge and competencies. The gap in technical is another challenge that the project managers have to face in handling the global projects. As per Geppert, Matten and Williams, (2016), the offshore team is not that much effective in aptitudes and proficiency, as the local engineering contingent. It may impact the efficiency and the productivity of the entire project team. There are some examples of project global management which defines the complexity in global project management such as An American service provider in which an American vendor provides end-to-end payment solutions. The company was founded in 2008 and provides the infrastructures and core expertise for electronic payment solutions. Due to cultural difference, the project management of his company is lightweight. Due to ineffective communication of managers, project management team has to suffer in tacking the task. Using wrong application can become the challenge for the global project management. Project team uses software to manage the project data and various applications are being used such as Microsoft, which are updated very frequently. It would not be possible for other team to update it frequently. It is necessary for the project managers to keep consider the online project management resources to interact with the members globally. It has been analyzed that geographical boundaries are the major challenge because there are several meetings held on a continuous manner to get the condition updates through project team for making ensure that everything is on the track. As per Rozenes, (2013), it is not easy task for the global project and the project team across the geographical distances because physical interaction with the members of team on daily basis that are living in different time zone, providing the feedback on time and tracking the entire process is far too difficult.
Opportunities of the global project management
Global project management is offering various opportunities to develop the growth of the company as well as the country. As per Gholami and Murugesan, (2013), opportunities of global project management are governmental, environmental, society, political, financial, legal and regulatory, technology and physical conditions. In the context of governmental, it helps to leverage the knowledge of government as well as economical situation to advance the project. It provides the strong advancement in technologies as well as the capability of the transportation which will pick up the pace of the delivery of the project. Cultural differences are bringing the opportunity in the global project management because the rich diversity has the various and advantageous ideas and view for growing the company progressively. It has been analyzed that the early adoption of the technology helps to business growth and rapid change. Global project management aids to connect with different countries to expand the business which bring the peace between two countries and enhance the principle of globalization. Communication barrier can be removed by using the language of company to explain the way of working of the employees of the global project. It is crucial to select the member as per the requirement profile and be aware of support activities after launching the project (Levitt and Scott, 2017).
Multicultural team can enhance the level of innovation at the time of various points are harvested. Experienced project manager can easily access the information and the new ideas with taking help of brainstorming. Likewise, strategies can be applied for problem solving situation. Team members in global project are linked from various organizations that can access to a more prosperous tool intellectual properties, knowledge and raw materials (Gemünden, 2015). It is the opportunity that different people may carry their own principles, process and corporative objectives which should be harmonized for the implementation of the project within time and cost. It has been evaluated that the some projects can be benefitted from the “around-the-clock” outcome for behavior that needs support of 24 hour. The difference in time zone can also facilitate in maintenance the work. For instance, being a team in Brazil reparing for the duration of office hours an online application is used in Japan, without affecting the working hours of Japan. It needs agreements and effective understanding between stakeholders without revealing the time of working hours. It has been evaluated that the Brazilians must have some interactions to Japanese at 9 pm in which Japanese have to come for meeting at 9 am. The introduction of various communication techniques are done due to global project management. The success rate of global projects can be increased due to project management offices (Lind and Culler, 2013).
There are various team members are allocated to projects as per the knowledge and availability. Global projects enable the member of team to do work progressively without relocating from one place to another (Westerveld, 2003). On contrast, meetings in various locations can raise the issue of misunderstanding. It is necessary to have the valuable approaches to coordinate multicultural and virtual teams by considering the culture difference, language skills and time zones. Dimension can be used by global project managers to identify the invisible elements of the national cultures (Schwalbe, 2015). It has been found that some communication channels are needed high faith while communicating with different country or include people in team who have never worked before. The global project offers the opportunity to identify the weak communication channel so that the work can be initiated on it. However, global projects have opportunities as well as challenges but it is significant to consider them perfectly during executing the global project and put in a place a set of effective practices to implement it in adequate manner.
From the above discussions, it has been concluded that the global project management are critical process for which project manager need to be ready for facing the various challenges. Global organization can use the framework in an initial point to detect which areas should be addressed before initiating the global project. The research has been made on the topic of challenges and the opportunities of global project management in which the discussion regarding challenges and opportunities has been mentioned. Cultural diversity is the major challenges in the global project management which has to face by project manager in the company. On the other hand, in the context of opportunity cultural differences are bringing the opportunity in the global project management because the rich diversity has the various and advantageous ideas and view for growing the company progressively.
